The right sofa. The right price.

Count the sections, not the cushions.

A loveseat, a sleeper and a sectional can look similar in a photo. Match the shape and features so your online price covers what is actually going.

Three structural sectional modules slightly separated, with all cushions remaining on their bases.
This example has three structural sections. The cushions do not add to the count.

A straight sofa or loveseat

Choose Standard sofa for fixed seats with no pull-out bed or reclining mechanism. One whole sofa is one item.

A sectional

Count its structural sections, not the loose cushions. Choose the piece count, then check for a sleeper or reclining feature. One sectional booking covers the configuration you select.

A pull-out bed or reclining seats

Choose Sleeper sofa or Reclining sofa for those mechanisms. A single reclining chair has its own Recliner choice. All sofa types also includes futons and sofas with a chaise.

Couches, sofas and household furniture

Special rules apply

A couch, sofa, upholstered chair, dresser, desk or entertainment center moves through the same scheduled bulky item route, because the city drop-off refuses furniture of every kind. The one-item-a-week allowance covers these pieces, and a futon is listed with or without its mattress.

City cost & eligibility
From $10 per additional furniture piece above the free weekly bulky item, with the published price list charging 25 dollars for large pieces such as sofas, dressers and entertainment centers and 10 dollars for small pieces. one scheduled bulky item a week is free for each eligible household, extra pieces in the same week are charged, and a piece that is not on the price list has to be quoted by calling Capitol Waste first.
When & how
Book with Capitol Waste Services at 1-844-377-1718 or through the city request form at least two business days before the normal trash day, and set the piece at the curb by 6:00 AM on the collection day.
Get it ready
Keep the piece away from poles, hydrants, mailboxes and carts so the collection arm has room. Do not leave a couch at the curb without a booked pickup, because unscheduled furniture is left where it sits. The Recycling Center turns away couches, dressers and shelving, so a charity that accepts furniture, a private hauler or this scheduled route are the practical options for a reusable piece.

Trash only leaves the curb in the city cart or an orange overflow bag

Household trash goes out in the city-issued 64-gallon wheeled cart, bagged, with the lid closed and nothing placed on top of it. Waste that does not fit goes in an official orange overflow bag beside the cart, and the allowance is five overflow bags a week; a household that regularly produces more has to arrange private pickup or rent an extra cart from the city. The bags are for household trash only, so yard waste, recyclables, construction debris and hazardous material do not belong in them, and bags go beside the cart rather than on or inside it.

Set-out windows, cart placement and who is eligible

Nothing goes to the curb before 4:00 PM on the day before collection, everything has to be out by 6:00 AM on the collection day, and empty containers come back off the curb by 11:59 PM that night. Carts need about three feet of clearance from poles, mailboxes, hydrants, trees and parked cars, no more than five feet from the curb edge, with the lid arrows facing the street so the truck arm can service them. Single-family homes through eight-unit buildings are eligible for city collection, with one cart per unit, and a condominium complex already on dumpster service keeps that service.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Haverhill works from the curb first, so most material moves through the cart, an overflow bag or a booked bulky pickup, and the city's own drop-off handles what those routes refuse. The Recycling Center at 95 Downing Avenue, at the rear of the 500 Primrose Street lot, is open year round to Haverhill and Bradford residents on Wednesday from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM and Saturday from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM, and it takes mattresses and box springs, appliances, televisions and other electronics, scrap metal, tires, auto batteries, universal waste, waste oil on the last Saturday of the month, textiles, plastic film, plastic containers 1 through 7, glass, cans and paper, plus leaves, grass and brush while the yard is open. Scrap metal, textiles, plastic film, universal waste and the monthly waste oil are free, while appliances, electronics, mattresses, tires, batteries and power equipment are priced per item and paid online or at the center. Two materials have no city route at all: furniture, which the center refuses outright, and construction, demolition and remodeling debris, which the city tells residents to dispose of privately. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Couch removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Haverhill.

How much does couch removal cost in Haverhill?

A standard sofa is $79 as the first item and $29 additional. Sectionals, sleepers and reclining sofas have their own choices. Select everything that is going to see the combined price before booking. Loading, transportation and disposal are included; any applicable sales tax appears before payment.

Can you pick up my couch today?

Book by 2pm in the pickup address’s local time for same-day pickup. Available dates appear at checkout. Have the couch outside and accessible according to your confirmation. We send pickup updates and photos when it is done; the booking is for a day rather than an exact arrival time.

How do I book a sectional for removal?

Open Sectional in the sofa choices, count its structural sections, and select any sleeper or reclining feature. Count the sections with their own bases, not loose cushions. The matching catalog choice covers one complete sectional of that configuration. Text a photo before booking if you are unsure.

Will you carry my couch out of my apartment?

Dropcurb starts outside. Arrange for the sofa to be moved through the apartment and down interior stairs before pickup. We load and haul it away from an accessible outdoor spot. Arrange any dismantling needed to get it outside beforehand.

Do I need to wait at home for couch pickup?

You do not need to be home when your booked sofa is outside and accessible. Add photos and pickup-location notes to your order so the right pieces are easy to identify. We send updates and completion photos. Confirm any building access restrictions with us before booking.

Will Haverhill take a couch that is simply left at the curb?

No. Furniture has to be scheduled with Capitol Waste at 1-844-377-1718 at least two business days before your trash day, and the free bulky item a week is the allowance that covers a couch, a dresser or a desk. The Recycling Center does not accept furniture, so an unscheduled couch has no city route.Official guidance

What does a couch or furniture pickup cost in Haverhill?

From $10 per additional furniture piece above the free weekly bulky item, with the published price list charging 25 dollars for large pieces such as sofas, dressers and entertainment centers and 10 dollars for small pieces. one scheduled bulky item a week is free for each eligible household, extra pieces in the same week are charged, and a piece that is not on the price list has to be quoted by calling Capitol Waste first. Who do I call if Haverhill misses my trash or recycling?

Report a missed collection to the city hauler Capitol Waste at 1-866-569-1718, or dial 311 inside the city and 978-358-1311 from outside it. Trash and recycling have to be at the curb by 6:00 AM on the collection day, containers come back off the curb by 11:59 PM that day, and the Solid Waste and Recycling Department at 978-420-3817 answers questions about the program.Official guidance

Where does Haverhill take paint, chemicals and other household hazardous waste?

The city runs two household hazardous waste drop-offs a year for residents with proof of residency, on Saturday, March 21 and Saturday, October 10, 2026, at the Wastewater Treatment Plant at 40 South Porter Street from 9:00 AM until noon, with a limit of 25 gallons of liquid chemicals and 25 pounds of dry chemicals. Dried latex paint and empty cans can go in the regular trash, while oil-based paint, propane tanks, tires, auto batteries and televisions are not accepted at the event and go to the Recycling Center or another drop-off instead.Official guidance

Can a reusable sofa, appliance or mattress go to the city instead of the trash?

The Recycling Center takes clothing and textiles free of charge, and the Big Brother Big Sister Foundation collects textiles at the curb free of charge on request at 508-466-4590, but the center refuses furniture, couches, dressers, shelving and small kitchen appliances. UTEC is not accepting donated mattresses, so a reusable piece needs a charity that accepts it, a booked bulky pickup for a sofa, or an appliance drop-off at the center for a fee.Official guidance
