A few pieces, one pickup

Your room has changed. The old furniture can go.

The desk you no longer use. The dresser that doesn’t fit the new layout. The chairs left over after a move. Choose the pieces you’re done with and give them a pickup day, without arranging a quote visit.

Choose each piece

A table and four chairs are five items.

You don’t need to guess how much space your furniture fills in a truck. Match each piece to the catalog, then add its quantity. Your total updates as you go.

Tables and chairs

Choose the table, then add each chair separately. Coffee tables, side tables and dining tables have their own options. A large or substantially heavy table has a different choice.

Dressers and mirrors

Match the dresser’s overall size. Add a separate dresser mirror as its own item if it is leaving too. Empty drawers and keep the belongings you want before moving the dresser outside.

Desks and bookshelves

Choose by construction, not height alone. A basic desk is different from a heavy desk with a substantial body. A tall, lightweight bookcase can still be a standard bookshelf. Empty it first.

Couches, sofas and furniture

Accepted with preparation

Furniture is accepted at the Recycle Ann Arbor drop-off sites with published per piece prices rather than at the curb.

City cost & eligibility
From $10 for the published Drop-Off Station furniture prices, which start with a dining or living room chair and rise for an upholstered chair, a love seat, a couch or sofa and a sleeper sofa, with the per day gate fee also applying. Residents and businesses bringing furniture to the Drop-Off Station or the Recovery Yard. Ann Arbor residents can waive the gate fee with the city pass, but the per item furniture price still applies, and credit card is the only accepted payment.
When & how
Drop off during posted hours, which are Tuesday and Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Drop-Off Station, or Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. at the Recovery Yard, both closed on the weekend or the days each site lists.
Get it ready
Keep upholstery dry and the piece whole, bring help because both sites are self service for drop-off, and separate furniture from recyclable material so the gatehouse can price the load correctly. Sofa beds and sleepers carry a higher published price than a plain couch.

Right item.
Right place.

Large items do not go to the curb at all

The city states that large items such as furniture, mattresses and appliances left at the curb will not be collected and can draw a fine, and that televisions, computers and other electronics and appliances containing freon are not cart material either. Those loads go instead to the Recycle Ann Arbor Drop-Off Station on East Ellsworth Road or to the Recovery Yard on Jackson Road.

The city pass that waives the Drop-Off Station gate fee

Ann Arbor residents can apply online at the city stream portal for a pass that waives the three dollar gate entry fee at the Drop-Off Station, with proof of residency required and commercial users excluded. The pass covers the entry fee only, so the per item disposal charges for large items and hard-to-recycle materials still apply, and the site takes credit card only.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

An Ann Arbor household that hauls its own material uses three gates. A few things
worth knowing.

Furniture removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Ann Arbor.

How much does furniture removal cost in Ann Arbor?

Choose the type and size of each piece to see its price. For example, a medium dresser is $79 as the first item or $29 as an additional item. Your total starts with the highest first-item price in your selection, then uses the additional-item price for every other item. Review the complete total and any applicable tax before payment.

Can I get same-day furniture pickup in Ann Arbor?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup and choose from the dates shown at checkout. Arrange to have the furniture outside according to your confirmation. You receive a text when your hauler is on the way and photos after collection.

Will you remove furniture from inside my apartment?

Dropcurb starts outside. You arrange indoor carrying, including any interior stairs or elevator trip. We load and take away the furniture from an accessible outdoor location. Check your building’s rules and plan the route out before booking.

Can you take several different furniture items in one pickup?

Yes. Add each piece and its quantity to one booking. A dining table and four chairs are five items; a separate mirror is not included with a dresser. You can mix eligible items from different rooms and review their combined total before paying.

Do I need to take furniture apart before pickup?

You arrange any disassembly needed to move the furniture out of your home and into an accessible outdoor pickup spot. Dropcurb does not provide indoor disassembly or carrying. If you are unsure which catalog choice matches a dismantled or unusual piece, send a photo and ask before booking.

What does it cost to drop off furniture?

The published furniture prices run from a dining or living room chair up through an upholstered armchair, a love seat, a couch or sofa and a sleeper sofa, with the per day gate fee added. The gatehouse prices the load when it arrives, and payment is by credit card.Official guidance

Will the Recovery Yard take furniture?

Yes. The Recovery Yard lists furniture among the waste disposal materials it accepts alongside pianos, mattresses and box springs, treated wood, railroad ties, brick, blocks and tile, and it does not accept municipal waste.Official guidance

How does the Drop-Off Station pass work?

Ann Arbor residents apply online through the city stream portal with proof of residency, and the approved pass arrives by email and waives the three dollar gate entry fee on each visit. Commercial users are not eligible, and the per item disposal fees still apply.Official guidance

Is there a winter cutoff at the Drop-Off Station?

Yes. During the winter months from November to March, scrap metal, general waste, bulky waste, furniture and yard waste are not accepted after 5 p.m. because of low lighting and safety concerns at the storage areas.Official guidance
