Appliances are on the allowed bulk list and the entry names dryers and refrigerators, so a stove, washer, dryer or refrigerator can go out with the bulk collection. The Westland Recycle Center also takes household appliances as a drop off, with refrigerators, stoves, air conditioners, washers and dryers named, but a refrigerator has to arrive with the doors and the Freon removed.

When & how
Appliances ride the every other week bulk day on your recycling day, or you can drop them at the Westland Recycle Center at 37137 Marquette between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM Monday through Saturday, closed Sunday.
Get it ready
Empty food, water and ice, tape a refrigerator or freezer door closed only after removing it as the drop off requires, remove the Freon from a refrigerator before a Recycle Center drop off, and keep the unit upright with the cords bundled rather than trailing.
Set it on the easement behind the curb, not in the street
Bins and bulk items go on the street side of any ditches or the back of the curb, and the city asks for at least 4 feet of space between the trash bin, the recycling bin, the bulk pickup and any yard waste containers so the arms can reach each one. Keep the pile clear of parked cars, fire hydrants, trees and utility poles, and clear the snow before you set a bin out, because a bin placed in the street interferes with plowing. Have everything out by 7:00 AM since collection runs from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
Glass, batteries, clothing and appliances stay out of the blue bin
The blue bin is single stream recycling for empty, clean and dry material and it takes one bin per property. Glass is not accepted curbside, so glass beverage and food containers go to the Westland Recycle Center at 37137 Marquette rinsed and dry. Batteries go into the drop boxes at City Hall, the Jefferson Barns Community Vitality Center, the William P. Faust Library or the Recycle Center, clothing and shoes go into the blue Mission Green bins, and old appliances go to the Recycle Center rather than the bin, which also means nothing should be bagged because plastic bags jam the sorting equipment.
