Couch & furniture removal in Brooklyn ParkCity collection A couch is a bulky item, so it never goes in the garbage or recycling cart. The routes are a large item pickup from the licensed hauler the household chooses, the city fall cleanup that reaches about one third of the city and allows two pieces of unusable furniture, a reusable piece donated at Bridging or the city Reuse Donation Day, or a self-haul load taken to a drop-off center. No local page publishes a price for a couch. Every Brooklyn Park household chooses its own licensed hauler, and each hauler sets its own charge for the large and special items it collects, which is why the city publishes a worksheet of questions instead of a rate card. The fall cleanup is a city program with no published household charge, and over-limit piles are the household's own to dispose of. Confirm the piece and the price with your hauler before the pickup.

Bags & household clutter in Brooklyn ParkCity collection The city fall cleanup is the standing bulky item route. It reaches about one third of Brooklyn Park each year, needs no appointment, and takes general household junk and building material in one level truck bed with two unusable furniture pieces, two mattresses or box springs and two appliances. Everything outside those limits, and every household outside the posted neighborhoods, uses a licensed hauler or a self-haul site. The city publishes no household charge for the fall cleanup and no rate for a hauler-large item pickup. Items over the cleanup limits are left behind and the household arranges and pays for separate disposal. Confirm the limits and the price with your licensed hauler or the self-haul site before the pile goes out.

The local disposal guide
Brooklyn Park does not run a city garbage truck. Every household chooses one of five licensed haulers for garbage, yard waste and extra items, and the city contracts separately for curbside recycling, which property owners pay for on the utility bill. Bulky items follow a different path again: the county drop-off station on Jefferson Highway takes electronics, appliances, mattresses, tires and household hazardous waste for a fee but refuses furniture, construction material and yard waste, the city runs a twice-yearly Special Material Drop-off Day and an annual fall cleanup that reaches about one third of the city, and reusable furniture and mattresses can go to a donation warehouse instead. Match the item to the right route before anything goes to the curb.

A couch is a bulky item, so it never goes in the garbage or recycling cart.
A mattress or box spring is a bulky item with four published routes: the county drop-off station, which takes them at the Brooklyn Park Transfer Station only, the city Special Material Drop-off Day that runs twice a year at a lower published price, the fall cleanup that allows two at the curb, and a donation through Bridging or the city Reuse Donation Day when the piece is still in good condition.
Large appliances have a published route. The county drop-off station takes the named units by the piece, the city Special Material Drop-off Day takes appliances at a lower published price, and the fall cleanup collects up to two at the curb. Only small countertop appliances belong in a donation load, so a washer, dryer or stove is not a Bridging item.
A cooling unit is handled as a large appliance rather than a sealed mystery. The county lists air conditioners including wall and window units, freezers, refrigerators and dehumidifiers among the appliances it takes by the piece, and the city drop-off day takes the same units at a lower published price. Neither route belongs in the garbage or recycling cart.
Electronics are illegal in the trash and are not collected in the recycling cart. The county station takes televisions, computer monitors and laptops by the piece and most other electronics at no charge with a limit of five of the same type a year. The city drop-off day charges a lower flat price for computers, monitors and televisions and takes other electronics free, and Bridging and Repowered are the reuse and certified recycling alternatives.
Construction material has no curbside route and the county drop-off station refuses it, along with concrete, asphalt, wood and remodeling debris. The fall cleanup takes leftover home remodeling material inside one level truck bed of general junk with no concrete, and the self-haul route is a commercial drop-off center or transfer station that publishes what it takes.
No Brooklyn Park page publishes a route or a price for exercise equipment. The city drop-off day lists exercise equipment among the items it will not take, the county station refuses furniture, and a donation warehouse takes only the items on its published list, so a treadmill or home gym is a question for your licensed hauler and for a self-haul site before it goes anywhere.

The handoff matters
The cart goes to the curb by 6:30 am on the service day and is picked up no later than 6:30 pm. Recycling runs every other week and garbage runs on the schedule your licensed hauler keeps. Containers may be set out after 3 pm the day before and have to be back inside or behind an approved screen by the end of the pickup day, because containers stored in public view are a code violation.

Recycling is single-sort and goes in loose, never in plastic bags, and a cart holding something the program does not take is not the place to hide a bulky item.

Not in the cart. Garbage has to be bagged inside the container your licensed hauler supplies, and a couch is a bulky item, so it leaves through a hauler large item pickup, the city fall cleanup for the neighborhoods it covers, a donation where the piece meets the size limits, or a self-haul load. The county drop-off station does not accept furniture at all.Official guidance
Use one of four routes. Hennepin County takes mattresses and box springs by the piece at the Brooklyn Park Transfer Station only. The city runs a Special Material Drop-off Day twice a year that charges less per piece. The fall cleanup collects two at the curb in the neighborhoods it covers. Bridging accepts clean ones for free when they are stain and rip free.Official guidance

It is an annual fall collection that reaches about one third of the city, with a postcard naming your date and no appointment. The limits are one level truck bed of general junk and household building materials, two unusable furniture pieces, two mattresses or box springs and two appliances. Anything over the limit is left behind and the household pays for separate disposal.Official guidance
You choose the hauler. Brooklyn Park requires every household and business to set up its own service with one of the five licensed haulers, Ace Solid Waste, Curbside Waste, Republic Services, Walters or Waste Management, and each one sets its own rates, cart sizes and charges for large and special items. The city contracts separately for curbside recycling, currently through Waste Management, and property owners pay for that on the utility bill.Official guidance
Ace Solid Waste, Curbside Waste, Republic Services, Walters and Waste Management are the five licensed haulers the city lists, with addresses and phone numbers on the city garbage page. The city also publishes a worksheet of the questions to compare, covering the monthly cost for each cart size, charges for yard waste, organics, extra garbage and large or special items, any senior or every-other-week discount, cart delivery or removal fees, and fuel and other surcharges.Official guidance
Yes, when the piece meets the size and condition limits. Bridging takes free drop-off donations with no appointment at its Plymouth, Bloomington and Roseville warehouses, including mattresses and box springs that are stain and rip free and sofas 90 inches or shorter with no sleeper, powered or reclining mechanism.
