Choose the right items

One computer setup can be several items.

A separate monitor and tower count separately. Small devices and cables have their own box option. Choose what is actually leaving so your price matches the pickup.

Monitor, desktop or laptop.

Choose Computer monitor for each separate display. Desktop computer covers one tower or one all-in-one computer. A laptop is its own item. Add only the devices going.

Printer or office copier.

A printer with a built-in scanner belongs under Printer. A floor-standing copy machine belongs under Office copier. The shape matters more than the brand.

A box of smaller electronics.

Use Box of electronics for small devices, cables and chargers together in one box. For a large or heavy box, unusual contents or separate batteries, send a photo and confirm the fit before booking.

Televisions, computers and electronics

Not on the regular city route

Electronics are refused at every city venue. Televisions are on the prohibited list for the free bulky pickup, the Drop-Off Depot refuses televisions and computer monitors, and the mobile hazardous waste events refuse electronics, so the published route is the regional district's drop-off recycling list.

City cost & eligibility
Independence publishes no municipal electronics collection or drop-off and no rate for one: televisions and computer monitors are refused at the Depot, electronics are refused at the hazardous waste events, and televisions are prohibited at the free bulky pickup. The city directs residents to RecycleSpot for drop-off recycling sites in the region, so the cost, if any, is set by whichever site takes the device.
When & how
There is no city electronics day. Use a regional drop-off recycling site, which the district page lists as free to Independence residents at Ted's Trash Service on 10736 E Truman Rd, the Lee's Summit Resource Recovery Park on 2101 SE Hamblen Rd and the Kansas City Recycling Center on 4707 Deramus.
Get it ready
Wipe personal data before a computer or phone leaves the house, and confirm with the specific site that it takes a television or monitor before loading, because the district page lists the sites for recycling in general rather than confirming each site's electronics rules.
City trash and cleanup page stating that the city does not provide residential trash service, listing the seven licensed haulers with phone numbers, describing the Drop-Off Depot location, dates, hours, residency and payment requirements and tarping rule, giving the vehicle based price table and the tire, appliance, battery and lawnmower pricing, listing the accepted and not accepted items and directing hazardous waste and recycling questions elsewhereRegional district page for Independence stating that solid waste collection is through private subscription, listing the subscription haulers, the free recycling drop-off centers, the yard waste drop-off locations and the household hazardous waste facilitiesIndeCleanup page with the district by district curbside bulk pickup dates, the three neighborhood dumpster locations, the free and fee depot days, the one-time free bulky item pickup limited to five items for single-family homes and buildings of six or fewer units, the accepted and prohibited item lists, the placement and preparation rules including carpet sizing, the refrigerant identification guidance and the reasons items are refused

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

The free pickup and the paid depot accept different things

The one-time free IndeCleanup bulky item pickup and the Drop-Off Depot are not interchangeable, and the prohibited list at the pickup says so by pointing several items at the depot. The free pickup takes large and small appliances, auto parts, battery powered equipment with the batteries removed, a bed with its headboard, frame and mattress, bicycles, countertops and cabinets, drywall, carpet, empty cans and buckets, old trash cans and recycling bins, sinks and toilets and a water heater, up to five items per appointment for a single-family home or a building of six or fewer units. It refuses items containing refrigerant, tires, brush and lumber, dirt, tree stumps and trunks, lawn mowers and gas powered equipment, yard debris, commercial or industrial waste, demolition and construction waste, dead animals and animal bedding, household hazardous waste, abandoned vehicles and televisions, and several of those refusals are annotated as accepted at the Drop-Off Depots instead.

For your Dropcurb pickup

Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.

Use a regional recycling drop-off

An Independence household with recyclables, yard waste or a hard to handle item such as a television that no city program takes.

Cost & conditions
No charge. The regional district states that Independence residents can use the listed recycling centers free of charge at Ted's Trash Service on 10736 E Truman Rd, the Lee's Summit Resource Recovery Park on 2101 SE Hamblen Rd and the Kansas City Recycling Center on 4707 Deramus, and that yard waste can be dropped at the Independence Drop-Off Depot, Missouri Organic Recycling on 7700 E. US Hwy 40 and the Lee's Summit Resource Recovery Park.
Arrange it
Choose the nearest listed site, check its own hours and accepted items first, and take the material in one trip.

The district lists the sites for recycling in general, so a specific site's electronics rules have to be confirmed before a television or monitor is loaded, and the city's own depot remains the route for paid household loads.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Independence asks households to contract their own collection and then fills the gaps itself. The city states that it does not provide residential trash service, publishes seven licensed haulers with phone numbers and lets each set its own rates, and then runs a Drop-Off Depot on the second Saturday of each month from April through October at 875 S. Vista Avenue, where the charge follows the vehicle rather than the load: 30 dollars for a car, 40 for a pick-up, van or SUV, 50 for a trailer of eight feet or less and 60 for a longer trailer, with appliances at 20 dollars each, tires at 5 dollars each while there are fewer than five, and batteries and lawnmowers free. Once a year the city also runs a cleanup week with district by district curbside bulky pickup days, three neighborhood dumpsters open to any resident with proof of residency, and a one-time free bulky item pickup by appointment for single-family homes and buildings of six or fewer units, limited to five items per appointment with spots that are limited and with every item required to be listed in advance. The two routes are not interchangeable: the free pickup takes the bed, the furniture, the appliances, the carpet, the sinks and the bicycles, while refrigerant appliances, tires, brush, dirt, stumps, lawn mowers, demolition and construction waste, televisions and household chemicals are prohibited there and, where the city says so, accepted at the depot instead. Household chemicals go to the regional program coordinated by the MARC solid waste district: the city event on Saturday April 25 at Walnut and Liberty, the Kansas City facility on 4707 Deramus Street, the Lee's Summit facility on 2101 SE Hamblen Road, or one of ten mobile events across the region in 2026, all free to members of participating communities with proof of residency and residential waste only. Electronics are refused everywhere in the city, including televisions at the depot and monitors at the free pickup, so a screen has to go to one of the regional drop-off recycling sites the district lists for Independence. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Electronics removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Independence.

How much does electronics pickup cost in Independence?

A computer monitor is $79 as the first item and $19 as an additional item. Choose the actual devices and quantities to see your combined price online. A separate desktop tower and monitor are separate items. Loading, transportation and disposal are included; review the total and any applicable tax before payment.

Can you pick up old electronics today in Independence?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates shown at checkout and have the prepared items outside according to your confirmation. We text you when your hauler is on the way and provide photos when the pickup is done. The booking is for a day, not an exact arrival time.

Does computer removal include my monitor and printer?

Desktop computer covers one tower or one all-in-one computer. Add a separate monitor, printer or laptop as its own item if it is going too. For small devices, cables and chargers together, choose Box of electronics and check the description before booking.

Do you erase data from old computers?

Data erasure and certified data destruction are not included in Dropcurb removal. Back up the information you need, then follow the manufacturer’s sign-out and reset instructions before pickup. If a device cannot be erased or contains sensitive business information, arrange suitable data handling before giving it away. Completion photos confirm the pickup, not data destruction.Official guidance

Can I book one box of old cables and small electronics?

Yes. Box of electronics is an existing option for small devices, cables and chargers together in one box. A monitor, desktop computer and printer each have their own item option. Send a photo before booking for a large or heavy box, unusual contents or separate batteries so we can confirm the fit.

Where does a television go in Independence?

Not to any city program. Televisions are on the prohibited list for the annual free bulky item pickup, the Drop-Off Depot's not accepted list begins with televisions and computer monitors, and electronics are refused at the mobile household hazardous waste events. The city points residents to RecycleSpot for drop-off recycling sites, and the district's page for Independence lists three regional recycling drop-offs free to residents.Official guidance
