East Orange runs its own collection service, and the whole city is split into a north, central and south zone, so your garbage, recycling and bulky trash days depend on the street you live on. Bulky trash rides a separate truck every week and takes up to three items at a time, which is why a couch, a mattress or a dresser has a place at the curb, while appliances, metals, tires and televisions are appointment items that need a call first. Paint, chemicals, batteries and the rest of the household hazardous material cannot go out at all, and the city sends that to the Essex County collection days at the public works facility in Cedar Grove.
