The city publishes no collection charge for a discharged unit, and the technician's own charge for discharging and tagging the appliance is not published, so arrange and confirm the work yourself before the unit goes to the curb.

The local disposal guide
Elyria picks up bulk items on the regular collection route, so a couch, mattress, furniture piece or appliance goes out beside the city carts once it is prepared the way the city asks. Mattresses have to be wrapped in plastic, carpet and padding have to be cut and tied into short bundles, and anything holding refrigerant is refused until a certified technician discharges the Freon and tags the unit. Televisions, computers and household chemicals do not belong in the carts, and the Lorain County Collection Center on South Abbe Road takes them instead.

Keep three feet of clearance around each cart, take the carts back off the tree lawn the same day, and put a bulk pile out with the same timing as the carts.
