You have decided what is going. Now give those bags and boxes a pickup day, with a price you can see before anyone arrives.
Book the unwanted bags and boxes left after packing. Choose an available pickup day before you hand back the keys, and arrange to have them outside.
You do not need a whole house of junk. Select the bags, boxes and larger items you actually have. Your combined price is shown online.
When the next collection does not fit your plans, choose a Dropcurb pickup day. Updates keep you informed, and completion photos show when the booked items are gone.

A few simple choices turn a mixed pile into a clear booking. No need to estimate how much of a truck it might fill.
Count each trash bag or filled household box. Books and media go by the box. Clothes, bedding and shoes go by the filled bag. Toys packed together have a Box of toys choice. Ask us about unusually heavy or oversized bags and boxes first.
Empty cardboard is a different choice: choose single empty boxes or tied bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Compacted bales have their own weight-based choices and require loading-dock access. A Storage bin choice covers the empty bin itself; ask us to confirm the contents if they are going too.
Add the actual larger item alongside your bags and boxes, such as a sofa, chair or mattress. It has its own price and preparation. Keep construction materials and items needing special handling out of ordinary household bags.

Elyria picks up bulk or large items on the regular collection route, and the city defines them as large residential items that cannot fit in a city cart.
Furniture is named in the city's bulk list and goes out with the regular collection. The county Collection Center refuses furniture of any kind, so the curbside route is the local answer.
A mattress is named in the city's bulk list, rides the regular collection and has to be wrapped in plastic before it goes to the curb.
Stoves, washers and similar appliances are named in the city's bulk list and go out with the regular collection, but anything holding refrigerant is refused until the Freon has been discharged and the unit tagged by a certified technician. A microwave is the only appliance the county center takes.
Elyria refuses any appliance that still holds refrigerant. A discarded refrigerator, freezer or air conditioner has to have the Freon discharged and the unit tagged by a certified technician before the city will pick it up.
Televisions are named in the city's bulk list, and the Lorain County Collection Center takes electronic scrap including computers, printers, monitors and televisions. The county's two published lists disagree about large tube sets.
No Elyria list names a treadmill or weight machine, and the county Collection Center refuses exercise equipment outright, so the machine has to be confirmed with the city before it goes out.
The handoff matters
Disassemble the item as much as possible, take out every screw and nail, and keep boxes and bags under 50 pounds. Cut carpet and padding and tie it into bundles no longer than four feet, wrap a mattress in plastic, and take the doors off a refrigerator or freezer. Anything holding refrigerant is refused until a certified technician discharges the Freon and tags the unit.
Bulk or large item guidelinesRefuse may go on the curb lawn no sooner than 5 p.m. the day before collection and no later than 7 a.m. on the collection day, because routes start at 7 a.m. and a late set-out may wait a week. Keep three feet of clearance around each cart, take the carts back off the tree lawn the same day, and put a bulk pile out with the same timing as the carts.
