Metal appliances are free at a Metro transfer station, coolant appliances are charged there, and the hauler's bulky service prices appliances per item instead.

City cost & eligibility
From $16.56 per appliance booked through the hauler's bulky waste service, with a stove, washer, dryer or barbecue grill at the standard appliance rate, a coolant containing appliance such as a refrigerator, freezer or portable air conditioner at the higher rate, and a flat pick-up fee of $16.00 for an urban address or $32.00 for a rural address. Washington County addresses in the unincorporated area for the hauler route, and any customer delivering to a Metro transfer station, where metal dishwashers, microwaves, water heaters, stoves, ovens, clothes washers and dryers are free and coolant containing appliances are charged.
When & how
Either book the hauler's bulky pickup, or take the unit to Metro Central or Metro South between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on any day the transfer stations are open.
Get it ready
Empty and clean the unit, keep food and loose parts out, and note that a plastic cased dishwasher is charged as garbage at Metro rather than as a free metal appliance. Coolant containing appliances carry a separate rate on both routes because of the refrigerant handling.

Residents with a disability recognised under Oregon law can ask their collection company for non-curbside pickup at no extra charge when nobody else in the household can place the containers out.

Bulky items are booked, not left with the carts

A couch, mattress, appliance, television or tire set is booked with the certificated collection company that serves the address and is collected on a bulky day that may differ from the regular garbage day. The charge is a flat pick-up fee plus a published rate for each item by size and material, the pick-up fee is billed whether or not the items are on site, and anything not on the published list is priced by size and weight. Metro Central and Metro South take self-haul loads instead, with recyclables, metal appliances, up to four mattresses a day and Oregon E-Cycles electronics free.

Washington County Solid Waste & Recycling with certificated collection companies and Metro transfer stations

Book a bulky waste pickup with your certificated collection company

A household with a couch, mattress set, appliance, television, tires or other large item that will not fit in the cart.

Cost & conditions
From $16 for flat pick-up fee for each urban collection inside the Metro boundary, or $32.00 for a rural address, with the published per item rate added on top and billed whether or not the items are set out at the agreed time. Washington County addresses in the unincorporated area served by a certificated collection company; the companies are Pride Disposal, Republic Services, Swatco Sanitary Service, Walker Garbage and Recycling Service and WM.
Arrange it
Call the company that serves the address for a cost estimate and to book the pickup, then set the items out on the bulky collection day, which may differ from the normal garbage day.

The pick-up fee applies regardless of how many items are set out and is billed even if the items are not on site, televisions and tires must never go in the garbage, reusable items should be donated first, and items not on the published list are billed by size and weight instead of a listed rate.

Washington County Solid Waste & Recycling with certificated collection companies and Metro transfer stations

Haul the load to a Metro transfer station

A household that can carry its own garbage, recycling, yard debris, appliances, electronics, mattresses or tires instead of paying a pick-up fee.

Cost & conditions
From $51 for minimum garbage charge for loads up to 240 pounds at Metro Central or Metro South, with heavier loads charged a proportion of the per ton rate and a transaction fee on staffed public scales, while recyclables are free, metal appliances are free, coolant appliances are charged, up to four mattresses a customer a day are free and Oregon E-Cycles electronics are free up to seven items a day. Any household delivering its own load during public hours; all mixed waste generated in the Metro service area must go to a Metro-authorized facility.
Arrange it
Drive to Metro Central, 6161 NW 61st Ave in Portland, or Metro South, 2001 Washington St in Oregon City, both open to the general public 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, sort the load before arrival, and cover it to avoid the uncovered load charge.

Vehicles and anything with a drive motor, asbestos containing material outside the small hazardous waste allowance, burned material and wildfire ash, flat and built-up roofing, loads of liquids, petroleum contaminated soil, radioactive metals and electric vehicle batteries are refused, and customers are responsible for anything they leave behind, so improper dumping can bring asbestos testing costs and substantial fines.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

West Haven-Sylvan households have two ways to self haul. The nearest public transfer stations are Metro Central at 6161 NW 61st Ave in Portland and Metro South at 2001 Washington St in Oregon City, both open to the general public 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily and both closed on the Fourth of July, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's days. Recyclables are free, metal dishwashers, microwaves, water heaters, stoves, ovens, washers and dryers are free, coolant containing appliances and tires are charged, up to four mattresses or box springs a day are free, Oregon E-Cycles electronics such as computers, monitors, printers, televisions, tablets, keyboards and mice are free up to seven items a day, and general garbage pays a minimum charge up to 240 pounds and a per ton rate above that, with clean wood and sorted yard debris on lower rates. Household hazardous waste is free at the co-located facilities, limited to 35 gallons a day, and is taken at Metro Central Monday to Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and at Metro South 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Washington County also lists other county drop-off sites, including Far West Recycling and Tualatin Valley Waste Recovery in Hillsboro, the Forest Grove Transfer Station, Pride Recycling Depot in Sherwood, and yard debris sites at Best Buy in Town, Grimms Fuel, Recology Organics and Woodco. Construction debris is different: all mixed waste generated in the Metro service area must go to a Metro-authorized facility, and using anything else requires a non-system licence. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Appliance removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in West Haven-Sylvan.

How much does appliance removal cost in West Haven-Sylvan?

A full-size household refrigerator is $109 as a single item. A washing machine is $109, and a dryer is $109. Other appliances have their own catalog prices. Choose each item to see your exact total before booking; disposal and recycling costs are included in the item price.

Can I get same-day appliance pickup in West Haven-Sylvan?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup, where available. Checkout shows the dates you can choose. Your pickup is scheduled for a day rather than an exact arrival appointment, and we text you before arrival. Have the appliance disconnected and ready outside by your pickup readiness time.

Can you take a washing machine and dryer in one pickup?

Yes. Add one Washing machine and one Dryer so both units are included in the price. They are separate items, even when you bought them as a set. If yours is a single combined unit or the machines still need to be unstacked, contact us before booking to confirm the scope.

Will you disconnect my appliance or carry it out?

Dropcurb picks up appliances that are already disconnected and accessible outside at ground level. Arrange uninstallation, utility disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Use a qualified professional for gas, hardwired or plumbing connections when needed. We handle loading and haul-away from the outdoor pickup spot.

Can I book if the delivery company did not take my old appliance?

Yes. Dropcurb pickup is separate from buying or installing a replacement, so you can book removal on its own. Select the old appliance, choose a pickup day and arrange for it to be disconnected and accessible outside. If your new delivery is still ahead, confirm the retailer’s haul-away arrangements before booking a separate pickup.

What does it cost to get rid of an appliance here?

It depends on the appliance and the route. At Metro Central or Metro South, metal dishwashers, microwaves, water heaters, stoves, ovens, clothes washers and dryers are free, while a refrigerator, freezer, portable air conditioner, dehumidifier or water cooler is charged because it holds coolant. Through your collection company's bulky waste service an appliance is priced per item, with coolant appliances on a higher rate, and a flat pick-up fee is added on top.Official guidance

Who collects garbage in West Haven-Sylvan?

Washington County sets and regulates the rates and rules in unincorporated areas, and one of five certificated companies does the hauling: Pride Disposal on 503-625-6177, Republic Services on 503-981-1278, Swatco Sanitary Service on 503-324-0230, Walker Garbage and Recycling Service on 503-531-6330 or WM on 800-808-5901. Use the county's Garbage and Recycling Day tool or call the county at 503-846-3605 to confirm which company serves an address, because an address inside a city boundary follows that city's rules instead.Official guidance

What does curbside service cost here?

The service is bundled into one monthly rate by cart size, from a 20 gallon can up to a 90 gallon cart, and the published rates are lower for an address inside the Metro boundary than for a rural address, with a recycling charge added to the monthly total. The bundle includes weekly garbage, up to two 96 gallon mixed recycling carts collected every other week, one red bin for glass and batteries every other week, and for addresses inside the Metro boundary a 60 gallon cart for yard debris and food scraps every other week. Households that qualify under Oregon law for disability pickup can ask for non-curbside service at no extra charge.Official guidance

What is free at the Metro transfer stations?

Recyclables are free, metal appliances such as dishwashers, microwaves, water heaters, stoves, ovens, washers and dryers are free, up to four mattresses or box springs per customer per day are free, and Oregon E-Cycles electronics including televisions, monitors, computers, laptops, tablets, printers, keyboards and mice are free up to seven items per person per day. Coolant containing appliances such as refrigerators, freezers and portable air conditioners are charged, garbage pays a minimum charge up to 240 pounds and a per ton rate above that, and covering your load avoids an uncovered load charge.Official guidance

What does a bulky item pickup cost?

A flat pick-up fee plus a rate for each item. The pick-up fee is lower for an address inside the Metro boundary than for a rural address outside it, it applies once per collection regardless of how many items are set out, and it is billed whether or not the items are on site. Item rates run from a small item such as an end table or bicycle, through medium and large items such as a chair, desk or recliner, up to an extra large item such as a couch or king size mattress set, with appliances, coolant containing appliances, electronics and tires on their own lines. Items not on the list are billed by size and material, and unscheduled service is charged hourly.Official guidance
