The local disposal guide
Killeen collects bulky material at the curb for a published fee rather than through a free appointment. A couch, chair, mattress, bed frame, table, water heater, stove, washing machine, dryer, grill or lawn chair left out on the scheduled garbage day is picked up by the city and billed to the utility account for that address, at a minimum of twenty one dollars per stop for up to three cubic yards and seven dollars and fifty cents for each cubic yard beyond that, and leaving it out counts as permission for the pickup. The container service itself runs once a week on a Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday route, includes one bagged yard waste collection with a six bag limit, and costs nineteen dollars and seventy eight cents a month for a ninety six gallon container. Anything prohibited at the curb, including tires, construction and demolition debris, rock, dirt, liquids, hazardous waste and oil or gas machinery, goes instead to the Killeen Transfer Station on State Highway 195, where a residential utility customer gets five hundred pounds of qualifying waste and four mattresses a month at no charge and pays per item for freon appliances and tires. Recyclables are free at the Recycling Center on Avenue F and at the city's recycling trailers.

The handoff matters
Killeen splits into four collection areas with garbage service on a Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday route, and the monthly garbage fee for a 96-gallon container is $19.78. Included in that fee are one weekly collection of garbage or rubbish in the city roll-out container and one weekly collection of yard waste, which is leaves, grass clippings and shrub trimmings in bags only with a six bag limit. Containers go out no earlier than 8 p.m. the evening before and no later than 7 a.m. on the collection day, placed at or near the driveway about four feet from any mailbox, obstacle or other container with the wheels and handle towards the residence.

Put it at the curb on your scheduled garbage day and the city will collect it and bill the utility account for the address. Couches, chairs, mattresses, bed frames and tables are named on the special collection list, and the charge is a minimum per collection stop for up to three cubic yards, with an extra rate for every cubic yard beyond that and the exact amounts set out in the city fee records. Placing the material out grants permission for the pickup, so there is no call to make unless you want a quote first.Official guidance
Two ways. A mattress is named on the city's special collection list, so it can go at the curb on the scheduled garbage day and be billed to the utility account at the published per stop rate. A residential solid waste utility customer can also take up to four mattresses per calendar month to the Transfer Station at no charge, with a valid ID and a current Killeen water bill showing active solid waste service, while a non-utility or commercial customer pays the published processing fee per item there.Official guidance
Yes. Water heaters, stoves, washing machines and dryers are on the city's special collection list, so they can go at the curb on the scheduled garbage day and are billed to the utility account at the published per stop minimum with a per cubic yard charge above three cubic yards. The Transfer Station also takes appliances such as stoves, water heaters, washers and dryers for recycling, where a residential utility customer can use the free monthly allowance for qualifying waste.Official guidance
By the stop and by volume. All waste materials except the prohibited items placed at the curb on the scheduled garbage day are picked up and billed to the utility account for the address that generated them, at a minimum charge for a collection stop covering up to three cubic yards plus an additional rate for each cubic yard above that. Placing the waste out grants permission for the pickup, and the city also bills a separate fee for an overloaded container or for excess garbage reloads.Official guidance
To the Killeen Transfer Station on State Highway 195, because tires are prohibited at the curb. The charge is per tire by rim size, with one rate for rims up to 12 inches, a higher rate for a passenger truck tire over 12 inches and up to 22 inches, and the highest rate for a commercial truck tire, all before tax and shown in the station's fee records. Tires are also on the refused list for the commercial roll-off containers, and they are not included in the free 500 pound monthly allowance for residential utility customers.Official guidance
The City of Killeen does, through the Solid Waste Division, with collection split into four areas served on a Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday route. The monthly fee for a 96-gallon container is $19.78 and includes one weekly garbage collection and one weekly bagged yard waste collection with a six bag limit, containers go out no earlier than 8 p.m. the day before and no later than 7 a.m. on the collection day, and the division answers questions and quotes special pickups on 254-501-7785.Official guidance
A minimum of $21 per collection stop for up to three cubic yards of material placed at the curb on the scheduled garbage day, with an additional $7.50 for each cubic yard above three cubic yards, all billed to the utility account for the address that generated the waste. Placing the material out grants permission for the pickup, an overloaded container draws a $10.00 fee, and excess garbage reloads during the regular route are $10.00 each with a maximum of two reloads per collection day.Official guidance
A residential solid waste utility customer may bring up to 500 pounds of qualifying residential waste and up to four mattresses per calendar month at no charge, as long as the waste comes from the primary residence and the customer shows a valid ID and a current Killeen water bill with active service. Air conditioning units, refrigerators, tires and unsecured loads are not included in the free allowance, weight over 500 pounds is billed at the published per hundred pounds rate, and a non-utility or commercial customer pays the higher rate from the first pound.Official guidance
The city treats them separately. Refrigerant appliances have special provisions and the Solid Waste Division gives the instructions on 254-501-7785, and the commercial services page repeats that air conditioning units and refrigerators need that guidance. At the Transfer Station, freon appliances such as air conditioning units, refrigerators, freezers and water coolers are charged a per unit fee for every customer and are excluded from the free residential allowance.Official guidance
Boats, camper shells, dirt, hazardous waste material, lead acid batteries, liquid waste of any kind, machinery containing oil or gas such as engines and lawn mowers, rock, tires, and construction and demolition debris are all prohibited at the curb. Those loads belong at the Transfer Station on State Highway 195, where construction debris, brush, furniture and yard waste are accepted by weight and freon appliances, mattresses outside the residential allowance, tires and unsecured loads carry their own fees.Official guidance
