The local disposal guide
Temple runs brush and bulky item collection by request rather than on a standing route: a household schedules one brush pickup and one bulky item pickup each month through 254-298-5000 or ttxconnect.com, and the pile is out by 7 a.m. on the Monday of the scheduled week. Each scheduled pickup covers up to six cubic yards, about a full size pickup bed, with six to twelve cubic yards collected for a fee and anything larger refused in favour of a roll off. Brush and bulky items have to be separate piles, because a mixed pile is not collected, and piles stay within three feet of the curb and six feet from cars, mailboxes and utility meters. The bulky service refuses construction and demolition debris, rocks and dirt, hazardous materials, refrigerators and appliances, and glass including mirrors and televisions, so the routes for those sit elsewhere: the household hazardous waste collection event at the Solid Waste Complex on October 24 takes electronics, chemicals, batteries and tires with the first four small tires free, motor oil, cooking oil and water based paint are accepted at the same complex all year, and the city landfill takes one free residential cleanup load a month with a water utility bill while excluding mattresses and any remodeling material.
