City cost & eligibility
No charge. Included in the residential solid waste service for a Temple address: each scheduled bulky item pickup covers up to six cubic yards, and a pile from six to twelve cubic yards is collected for a fee that the city does not publish. Piles over twelve cubic yards are not collected and a roll off is requested instead.

Get it ready
Keep the mattress in a pile separate from any brush, because a mixed pile is not collected, and place the pile within three feet of the curb and at least six feet from cars, mailboxes and utility meters, avoiding low hanging wires and limbs. Do not take the mattress to the landfill under the free residential allowance, because that allowance excludes mattresses.

Brush must be in its own pile with no bags, boxes or trash mixed in, because a mixed pile is not collected, and the trucks may reach the two piles on different days of the week. The two pickups are separate monthly allowances.
A Temple resident with a pickup load or less of general household cleanup brings a current water utility bill showing the residential garbage rate for one free dump a month. The allowance excludes mattresses and any remodeling, demolition, building or roofing material, and anything larger than a pickup load, and every load must be covered and tarped with a safety vest worn on site.
