The local disposal guide
Missouri City runs its waste programme through a residential contract with GFL Environmental. The base rate of twenty dollars and thirty one cents a month from the first of January includes garbage twice a week, weekly curbside recycling, weekly bulk waste and weekly yard waste, plus holiday tree pickup each January, and the trucks take everything at the curb by seven in the morning with the bins at least five feet apart and handles facing the house. Bulk waste shares the recycling day, so a household on the Thursday route puts bulky items out with the recycling and a household on the Tuesday route does the same on Tuesday. The city does not print an item list for the bulky collection, so the way to be sure a couch, a mattress or an appliance will be taken is to call GFL on 281-403-5800 before the collection day. Two named destinations cover the rest: the Fort Bend County Recycling Center on Blume Road takes household hazardous material and recyclables free, including scrap metal, batteries, oil and cooking oil, with electronics accepted for a fee, and tree trimmings can go to Living Earth Technology for a fee. Electronics collection events run with Missouri City Green about twice a year.

Bulk waste is a weekly service on the recycling day, but the city does not publish which furniture it will take, so the item has to be confirmed.
A mattress is not named on any retained Missouri City page, so the weekly bulk route has to confirm it first.
Appliances are not enumerated for the bulky route, and scrap metal has a free county drop-off that needs confirming as an appliance route.
No retained page names a refrigerant unit, so both the curbside route and the county drop-off have to be confirmed.
A television has a named county drop-off that charges a fee, and the fee amount is not published.
Computers and small electronics use the same county drop-off as televisions, charged as electronics rather than as free recyclables.
Construction material is named nowhere, while the private sites the city names take garbage and tree trimmings rather than renovation debris.
Exercise equipment is named nowhere, so the machine has to be confirmed against the weekly bulk route.
Weekly bulk waste is part of the residential contract and rides the same day as recycling and yard waste.
The handoff matters
Missouri City publishes two service patterns. Households with trash on Mondays and Thursdays have recycling, bulk and yard waste collected on Thursdays, and households with trash on Tuesdays and Fridays have them collected on Tuesdays, with everything at the curb by 7:00 a.m. Garbage itself runs twice a week, and the city's ordinance sets the service window between 7 am and 7 pm. The automatic front-loading trucks need the garbage and recycling bins at least 5 feet apart with the handles facing the house, and the monthly base rate that took effect on January 1, 2026 covers the whole package, including holiday tree pickup in January.
City municipal solid waste programme page with the GFL base rate, the weekly service list, the route patterns, the item and cart rules and the assisted service programmeThe commingled recycling collection takes plastics, all metal cans, all cardboard, glass and paper or paper cartons every week, with containers rinsed and cardboard flattened and pizza boxes left out of the bin. Yard waste has to go into heavy-duty biodegradable lawn and leaf refuse bags that will not break when lifted, and anything in a regular solid waste bag is collected as trash instead. Brush has to be securely bound and no longer than four feet or 40 pounds. Yard waste and recycling ride the same day as the bulky collection.

The Fort Bend County Recycling Center at 1200 Blume Road in Rosenberg accepts glass, scrap metal, paper, plastics, styrofoam, antifreeze, car and truck batteries, oil filters, used motor oil, cooking oil and rechargeable batteries free of charge, and takes electronics for a fee, with questions on 281-633-7581.
