A few pieces, one pickup

Your room has changed. The old furniture can go.

The desk you no longer use. The dresser that doesn’t fit the new layout. The chairs left over after a move. Choose the pieces you’re done with and give them a pickup day, without arranging a quote visit.

Different pieces. One clear total.

Choose each piece

A table and four chairs are five items.

You don’t need to guess how much space your furniture fills in a truck. Match each piece to the catalog, then add its quantity. Your total updates as you go.

Tables and chairs

Choose the table, then add each chair separately. Coffee tables, side tables and dining tables have their own options. A large or substantially heavy table has a different choice.

Dressers and mirrors

Match the dresser’s overall size. Add a separate dresser mirror as its own item if it is leaving too. Empty drawers and keep the belongings you want before moving the dresser outside.

Desks and bookshelves

Choose by construction, not height alone. A basic desk is different from a heavy desk with a substantial body. A tall, lightweight bookcase can still be a standard bookshelf. Empty it first.

Couches, chairs and household furniture

Accepted with preparation

Furniture is on the city's accepted bulky list and leaves on a requested BABIC pickup, which the city provides at no additional cost to residents. Anything heavier than 50 pounds is called in and set at the curbside right-of-way, while lighter pieces go out with the twice weekly refuse.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Richardson residents requesting the service for material generated on their own property, inside the city's suggested limit of eight requests a year. The city states that bulky item collection is provided at no additional cost.
When & how
Request the pickup online or on 972-744-4111, put the furniture at the curbside right-of-way before midnight on the night before the designated collection day, and check the service delay page because a delayed route usually runs the next day.
Get it ready
Keep the pile to accepted bulk, put anything under 50 pounds in the regular refuse instead, and leave prohibited material out: construction and remodeling debris, roofing, tile, concrete, dirt, glass and window frames, compressed gas cylinders, vehicle parts and tires.

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

Under 50 pounds rides the regular truck, over 50 pounds gets a call

Richardson splits material by weight. Household trash, recycling, plastic bags and anything under 50 pounds, including small appliances, microwaves, chairs and vacuums, go to the normal pickup point for the twice weekly collection. Vegetative debris such as limbs and logs over 50 pounds goes to the curbside right-of-way, and a bulky item such as an appliance or piece of furniture over 50 pounds has to be called in as a Brush and Bulky Item Collection and left at the right-of-way.

Residential regular trashBrush and bulky item collection

A bulky pickup starts with a request

BABIC is a service provided by request, so the pile does not move until the request is made through the online form or 972-744-4111. Material goes out before midnight on the night before the designated collection day, the city asks residents to limit themselves to about eight requests a year, and a route shown as delayed on the service page usually runs the following day, including Saturday. If a scheduled pile is missed in error, the 24 hour response centre is the same number.

Brush and bulky item collection

The pile never includes construction debris, tires or glass

Roofing materials and shingles, tile and laminate flooring, hazardous waste such as paint, oil, pesticides and solvents, buildings and sheds, concrete, asphalt, bricks, rocks, gravel, dirt, sand, sod and railroad ties, ceramic tile, remodeling and construction debris, glass, mirrors, windows and window frames, compressed gas or air cylinders and vehicle parts including tires are all prohibited from the bulky pile. Construction material goes in an open-top container from a city-permitted hauler who bills the resident directly.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Richardson residents have three routes, and the 50 pound line decides which one applies. Anything under 50 pounds goes out with the twice weekly refuse collection at the normal pickup point, using the city's refuse bags. Anything over 50 pounds goes to the curbside right-of-way, and if it is bulky, such as furniture, a mattress and box springs, a large appliance or a large television or monitor, it has to be requested as a Brush and Bulky Item Collection on 972-744-4111 or through the online form and left out before midnight on the night before the designated day, at no additional cost and within the city's suggested limit of about eight requests a year. Residents can also drive regular trash to the NTMWD Lookout Transfer Station at 1601 E. Lookout Drive, Monday to Saturday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with a driver's licence and current water bill, but that site refuses hazardous waste and electronics and brush goes to the Custer Transfer Station in Plano instead. Construction and demolition debris is outside all of this: the ordinance leaves it to city-permitted haulers who contract with the resident and bill them directly, and the bulky service refuses it along with tires, concrete, glass and hazardous material. Yes. Add each piece and its quantity to one booking. A dining table and four chairs are five items; a separate mirror is not included with a dresser. You can mix eligible items from different rooms and review their combined total before paying.

Do I need to take furniture apart before pickup?
