City cost & eligibility
Furniture is not accepted through the specialty curbside collection and the district publishes no furniture rate. A residential landfill load is charged the published minimum or by weight at the gate rate, so confirm the current charge with the Trans-Jordan Landfill on (801) 569-8994 or with the district on (385) 468-6325.
When & how
Request a district landfill voucher for a covered load to the Salt Lake Valley Landfill or the Trans-Jordan Landfill, or drive the piece to a landfill and pay at the gate. Check the specialty curbside page again before booking, because the district says it is evaluating furniture collection.
Get it ready
Cover and secure the load, because an untarped load is charged a double fee at the Trans-Jordan Landfill and Utah law requires covered loads. Keep mattresses, tires and freon-containing units out of a voucher load, since the voucher does not cover them.
Household material the carts and the specialty service will not take goes to a landfill, either on a district voucher or at the gate rate.
City cost & eligibility
From $15 for the minimum charge for a non-commercial vehicle load up to 10,000 pounds gross vehicle weight at the Trans-Jordan Landfill, with disposal charged at $42.00 per ton. Residential loads taken to the landfill, or a covered load on a district voucher valid for cars, SUVs, pickups up to one ton and hand-unloaded trailers. Vouchers are not valid for mattresses, tires or freon-containing units.
When & how
Request a digital voucher for a covered load, or drive to the Trans-Jordan Landfill Monday to Saturday. The landfill is closed on Sundays, New Year's Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Get it ready
Tarp and secure every load, because an untarped load is charged double. Leave asbestos, dead animals, liquid and septic loads, unopened drums and registered vehicles or trailers at home, and route lawn mowers only after the gas and oil are removed.
The district collects the garbage can and the recycling can every Thursday, except in a week where New Year's Day, Thanksgiving Day or Christmas Day falls, when collection resumes on the Friday. Cans go out with the lids able to close and at least three feet from vehicles, mailboxes, signs and other cans.
Every mattress and box spring must be bagged before a specialty pickup, because the district states that unbagged pieces will not be collected. Landfill vouchers do not cover mattresses, so bagging is the route.
All loads going to the Trans-Jordan Landfill must be fully tarped and secured or a double fee applies, which mirrors the Utah law the district quotes for voucher loads. The landfill takes no cash, so bring a credit or debit card.

Only the two cans are included. Extra material needs the specialty service, an extra can subscription or a landfill trip, and overflow outside the can is not collected.
