White goods are collected in the city bulk program, and a refrigerator or freezer has to be empty with the door removed before it is set out.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. Included in the residential collection service billed on the monthly water and sewer statement, with no separate fee published for an appliance. At an SPSA transfer station a small appliance is free inside the first twelve visits a year when it carries a certification sticker free of restricted chemicals, and the Regional Landfill takes appliances without a sticker.
When & how
Set the appliance out with a scheduled bulk pickup on your normal trash day, or take it to an SPSA transfer station on a residential window, or to the Regional Landfill at 1 Bob Foeller Drive on weekdays or Saturday morning.
Get it ready
Empty the unit, remove the refrigerator or freezer door, keep the appliance separate from the rest of the bulk pile and from tires and cardboard, and never put an appliance in a trash can. A refrigerant unit with no certification sticker goes to the Regional Landfill rather than a transfer station.
The set out window is the night before or early morning
Refuse goes out after 5 p.m. the day before collection and by 7 a.m. on the collection day, cans need three feet of clearance from mailboxes, parked cars and other obstacles, lids have to close, and empty cans come off the curb by 7 p.m. that same day.
Book bulk before the cutoff, not on collection day
Bulk waste has to be scheduled before it goes out, and requests close the day before and the day of your collection day. A Thursday address has to submit by 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, and anything left at the curb without an appointment can draw a removal notice and fines.
Tires, white goods and cardboard set out for collection have to be separated from bulk refuse, and every bulk pile sits at the curb rather than in a public alley, clear of water meters, cable boxes, power lines, utility poles and tree limbs.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.

Yes. Dropcurb pickup is separate from buying or installing a replacement, so you can book removal on its own. If your new delivery is still ahead, confirm the retailer’s haul-away arrangements before booking a separate pickup.
