The local disposal guide
Federal Way leaves collection to Waste Management and does the organizing itself. The hauler runs curbside garbage, recycling and yard and food waste at single-family and multi-family addresses, and garbage with limited free recycling at commercial addresses, with more recycling and yard and food service available from businesses including the hauler. The city provides the information, the service day map and the community programs around it. What the city does run is a set of free drop-offs: batteries at nine locations around town, styrofoam and plastic film in the City Hall lobby, cooking oil at French Lake Dog Park, and a drive-thru recycling event for apartment residents that takes appliances, mattresses, styrofoam, soft plastics, clean wood and metal. Household chemicals go to King County instead, whose Wastemobile sits at the Auburn Outlet Collection on weekends and takes oil based paint, batteries and bulbs free of charge.
