The local disposal guide
SeaTac residents get weekly garbage through Recology King County, with recycling and food and yard waste included at no extra charge, and the city publishes the rate by cart size so a household that recycles more can pay less. Large items move on an on-call bulky collection with a published price list, and once each calendar year a residence may book a free collection of up to three bulky items at the curb. Refrigerators and freezers go out with their doors removed, mattresses and sofas carry their own rate, and anything the hauler will not take, from construction loads to a household cleanout, goes to the county transfer station in Tukwila. Dropcurb hauls residential items from addresses across SeaTac.

Items too large for the bins are handled through an on-call bulky item collection rather than a fixed bulky week, and once each calendar year a SeaTac residential customer may request a free collection of up to three bulky items such as appliances, couches or large chairs.

Washing machines are named in the bulky example list, and the 2026 rate card prices a non-refrigerant appliance as the cheapest line on the card. Appliances also appear on the city's one day recycling event list.

SeaTac's collection contractor runs a residential curbside special item recycling programme, so electronics and small appliances can go out with the blue recycling cart. The bill payer on record requests the collection, and the items sit on top of or beside the cart on collection day. The published list covers batteries, motor and cooking oil, styrofoam, textiles, small appliances and electronics, fluorescent tubes and bulbs, and empty camping style propane canisters. Small appliances and electronics have to be 2 feet by 2 feet by 2 feet or smaller and under 60 pounds, so a full size television is outside the published limits and has to be checked with the hauler or taken to the City's one day recycling collection event.
Construction and renovation material moves through the hauler's debris box and construction services route or through a county station. Recology King County publishes open debris boxes in 10, 20, 30 and 40 yard sizes for remodels, demolition, land clearing and special events, with a maximum load weight of 14,000 pounds, and heavy material such as dirt, concrete or brick has to be kept separate from the rest of the load because of the weight. A self hauled load can also go to the Bow Lake Recycling and Transfer Station in Tukwila.
Exercise equipment is not named on the SeaTac bulky example list or on the 2026 rate card, so a treadmill is an unlisted piece even though the collection itself is a general bulky service.
The handoff matters
Garbage is collected every week and recycling and food and yard waste come with the residential garbage service at no additional charge. All recycling has to be empty, clean and dry, and plastic bags are no longer accepted in SeaTac recycling, so they go in the garbage or to a grocery store or one of the named drop-off services.

Doors have to be removed from refrigerators and freezers before collection, and the once a year allowance covers up to three bulky items such as appliances, couches or large chairs.
Bulky Items, curbside on-call collection and the yearly free allowanceGarbage that does not fit the cart is charged per 32 gallon equivalent, and the hauler warns that a lid open more than six inches draws that additional charge. Once each calendar year a household may also put up to one cubic yard of garbage at the curb as long as each item, bag or box is no larger than three feet by three feet.
