Thurston County residents and businesses; a refrigerated appliance such as a refrigerator, freezer, air conditioning unit, water cooler or dehumidifier adds an $18 per item special handling fee and is accepted at the Waste and Recovery Center only.

Take the unit to the Waste and Recovery Center in Lacey during its open hours, and do not take it to a drop box because those sites are not set up for refrigerated appliances.

Empty and defrost the unit, remove the doors so it cannot be entered, keep it upright for the trip, and tell the staff it is a refrigerated appliance so the handling fee is recorded.
Neither the city nor the county collects curbside waste in Tumwater.
