The local disposal guide
Woodinville is the rare city with no municipal collection contract. The city says so directly: it has no contracted solid waste or recycling hauler, so the services, the costs and the equipment are not within its control, and the rates and requirements are set by the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission, which established Waste Management as the hauler for the area. Everything curbside therefore runs through Waste Management on 1-800-592-9995, which handles start and stop service, service level changes, replacement carts, missed collections and the special pickup that takes bulky items such as mattresses, large appliances and building materials for a fee. Garbage is weekly, recycling is every other week on the garbage day, and yard and food waste runs weekly for a household that subscribes. The disposal side is King County, and its Houghton station fact sheet names Woodinville among the areas that station serves, with the Shoreline station the other northern option and the Factoria station holding the household hazardous waste drop-off.

Woodinville has no city collection contract, so curbside service is a subscription with Waste Management, the hauler the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission has established for the area, and the city does not set the rates, the services or the equipment. Garbage is collected once a week, recycling every other week on the garbage day, and yard and food waste weekly for a household that subscribes.
Extra material beyond the cart is a charged service rather than a free allowance. A garbage lid open more than six inches brings an extra garbage charge, extra recyclables go out in a bin or cardboard box next to the recycling cart at a charge, and extra yard waste that will not fit with the lid closed carries a charge of its own.
Recycling is collected every other week on the garbage day, loose in the cart and never bagged, with flattened corrugated cardboard no larger than three feet square. The hauler keeps plastic bags, foam cups and packaging, batteries, diapers, liquids, fuel tanks, computers and televisions, shredded paper, aluminum foil and broken dishes, ceramics and window glass out of the recycling cart and tags a cart that is contaminated.
Yard and food waste collection is available by subscription and runs every week year round for a household that signs up, with food scraps and food soiled paper going only in the food and yard cart the hauler provides.
The hauler collects bulky items such as mattresses, large appliances and building materials from the curb by special arrangement for a fee, which is the whole curbside route in Woodinville because the city runs no collection of its own.
Furniture leaves the curb on the hauler's special bulky item pickup for a fee, and a reusable piece has a second route at the King County Shoreline station, where a reuse collection area takes furniture in good condition.
A mattress or box spring goes out on the hauler's special bulky item pickup for a fee, or to a King County transfer station that recycles mattresses, futons and box springs for a handling fee for each item.
A large appliance leaves the curb on the hauler's special bulky item pickup for a fee, or goes to a King County station that recycles major appliances rather than burying them.
Computers and televisions never go in the garbage or the recycling cart, and King County states they have not been accepted at its transfer stations since October 1, 2005, so the routes are the free E-Cycle Washington collection sites and the wider Take it Back Network.
Building material is named in the hauler's bulky item sentence and collected by special arrangement for a fee, and the same service line handles construction and demolition containers, while King County accepts construction and demolition waste at its transfer stations.
Tires have no curbside route in Woodinville and go to a King County station that recycles them in its tire bins.
An exercise machine is not on the hauler's published bulky item example list, which names mattresses, large appliances and building materials, so the curbside answer has to be cleared with the hauler, while the metal frame has a county recycling route when the machine is at least half metal.
Batteries, fluorescent bulbs, fuel tanks, liquids, medical waste, syringes and hazardous waste are all kept out of the garbage and out of the recycling cart, and paint has a free route of its own through the state paint stewardship drop-offs.
The handoff matters
Garbage goes out every week, recycling every other week on the same day and yard and food waste every week for a subscriber. Put the carts at the curb by 6 am, two feet apart with the lids opening toward the street and at least three feet from cars, trees, mailboxes and utility boxes, wheels as close to the road as possible, and bring them in as soon as possible after collection. Extra recycling goes in a bin or cardboard box beside the recycling cart, extra yard waste in a can with handles labelled Yard, a twine tied bundle within the four foot by two foot limit or paper leaf bags, and each extra carries a charge.

Call Waste Management on 1-800-592-9995 and ask for a special pickup, which the hauler arranges for a fee and prices on request. The city runs no collection of its own, so there is no municipal bulky item appointment, and the hauler's King County service guide names mattresses, large appliances and building materials as examples of what the special arrangement covers.Official guidance
Yes, but only through the hauler's special bulky item pickup, which is arranged for a fee on 1-800-592-9995 because the city runs no collection of its own. A piece that is still usable has a better route at the reuse collection area outside the King County Shoreline station, which takes high quality seating, tables, dressers and framed mirrors when its staff accept the item on inspection.Official guidance
Either on the hauler's special bulky item pickup, arranged for a fee on 1-800-592-9995, or by dropping the set at a King County station that recycles mattresses. Bow Lake, Enumclaw, Factoria, Shoreline and Vashon all recycle mattresses, futons and box springs for a handling fee for each item with a limit of six items per customer, no wet items accepted and stained or torn items still accepted, while the Algona, Cedar Falls, Houghton and Renton stations take a mattress as waste rather than recycling it.Official guidance
Either on the hauler's special bulky item pickup, arranged for a fee on 1-800-592-9995, or to a King County transfer station that recycles major appliances. Bow Lake, Enumclaw, Factoria, Shoreline and Vashon recycle them, a refrigerant appliance such as a refrigerator, freezer, air conditioner, dehumidifier or heat pump is charged by the unit with no commercial appliances accepted, and the county does not accept a major appliance for disposal except a dishwasher that is at least half plastic.Official guidance
Not in either cart. The hauler's guide keeps computers, televisions and batteries out of the garbage and out of the recycling, and King County states that computers, monitors, televisions and cell phones have not been accepted at its transfer stations since October 1, 2005. Authorized E-Cycle Washington collection sites recycle computers, laptops, monitors and televisions free, electronics outside that program carry a recycler's fee through the Take it Back Network, and the county's What do I do with tool lists the rest.Official guidance
The city has no collection contract, so the curbside amount sits in the hauler's rate and is confirmed with Waste Management on 1-800-592-9995. Extra garbage, extra recycling, extra yard waste and the special bulky item pickup are all published as charges without amounts, a mattress recycled at a King County station carries a handling fee for each item, a refrigerant appliance is charged by the unit, and a self haul load goes by the county fee schedule with a twenty-five dollar unsecured load fee and a Cleanup LIFT discount of twenty dollars off each type of waste on each visit for a customer with a ProviderOne, EBT or ORCA LIFT card.Official guidance
Hazardous waste, medical waste, syringes, fluorescent bulbs, fuel tanks, liquids, computers, televisions and batteries are kept out of the garbage, and plastic bags, foam cups and packaging, diapers, shredded paper, aluminum foil and broken dishes, ceramics and window glass are kept out of the recycling cart. King County does not accept major appliances for disposal except dishwashers that are at least half plastic, does not accept computers or televisions at all, refuses tires from businesses and refuses large truck tires.Official guidance
Waste Management collects curbside garbage, recycling and subscribed yard and food waste under rates and requirements set by the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission, which the city says has established the hauler for the area. Service changes, missed collections and special pickups go through 1-800-592-9995, the commission's consumer help line answers regulation questions on 1-888-333-9882, and King County runs the transfer stations and the household hazardous waste drop-off with its solid waste information line on 206-477-4466.Official guidance
No. The city states that Woodinville does not have a contracted solid waste or recycling hauler, so the types of service, the costs and the equipment are not within the city's control, and the rates and requirements are set by the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission, which has established Waste Management as the hauler for the area. A household starts service, changes the service level, orders a replacement cart or books a special pickup with Waste Management on 1-800-592-9995.Official guidance
