The local disposal guide
Redmond contracts its residential garbage, recycling and compost collection to Recology, which took over the route under a new city contract. A household sets out the three Recology carts on its collection day, and anything too large for a cart goes out through an on-call bulky item collection, where a single-family customer is entitled to one no-cost collection a year of up to three pieces or one cubic yard as long as no item is larger than three feet by three feet. Items that are hard to recycle but small, such as batteries, motor and cooking oil, foam, textiles, small appliances and electronics, fluorescent tubes and camping propane canisters, can go at the curb as a special item collection next to the recycling cart when the bill payer requests it. The Recology Store on 161st Avenue takes more hard-to-recycle material in person, household hazardous waste goes to a King County collection site with no appointment and no fee, and televisions, computers, monitors, laptops, tablets, e-readers and portable DVD players recycle free through E-Cycle Washington.
