The local disposal guide

Will the city
take it?

Peoria runs its own Solid Waste Division for trash, recycling, bulk trash and household hazardous waste, so the local routes are city routes rather than a private contract. Household trash and recycling are collected weekly on the same day from two containers, and anything too large for a cart goes through the bulk trash program, which has been by appointment since 2023 and allows two collections per calendar year with no additional fee for a pile inside the published size limit. The bulk list is generous in one direction and strict in another: appliances including refrigerators, washers, water heaters, microwaves and dryers are accepted, along with sofas, tables, mattresses, exercise equipment and televisions, while tires, rock, brick, concrete, drywall, shingles, sod, glass, lithium batteries and hazardous waste are refused. Between appointments the city sells a special haul at a published rate, and residents can also drop loads at three area landfills that require the city utility bill as proof of residency.

Couches, sofas and furniture

Accepted with preparation

Sofas, chairs, tables, bookcases, desks and patio furniture are named on Peoria's acceptable bulk trash list, so a couch leaves on a bulk trash appointment rather than in a cart. The program allows two collections a calendar year for a household with an active Solid Waste account.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. No additional fee for a bulk trash appointment, which is available to City of Peoria residents with an active Solid Waste account, up to two collections per calendar year, with a pile limit of 6 feet long by 4 feet wide by 3 feet tall. A pile larger than that may be subject to additional fees.
When & how
Request the appointment online and wait for the confirmation before anything goes out, then place the pile in the gutter or at the curb by 6 a.m. on the zone collection date and no more than one day in advance. To ask about dates or a special haul, call the division at (623) 773-7890.
Get it ready
Keep the pile inside the size limit in front of the property where the furniture came from, clear of the sidewalk, the mailbox and any parked car. Do not combine several households into one pile, because items placed on private property are not serviced and can draw a return fee.

Mattresses and box springs

Accepted with preparation

A mattress is named on Peoria's acceptable bulk trash list alongside sofas, tables and bookcases, so it leaves on a bulk trash appointment instead of in a container. Box springs are not named anywhere in the published lists, so the packet does not claim them.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. No additional fee on a bulk trash appointment for a resident with an active Solid Waste account, with a maximum of two collections per calendar year and the 6 by 4 by 3 foot pile limit. An oversized pile may carry additional fees.
When & how
Book the appointment and hold the mattress until the confirmation arrives, then set it out in the gutter or at the curb by 6 a.m. on the zone collection date and not more than one day early.
Get it ready
Keep the mattress in front of the property where it came from and inside the pile limits, and keep it out of the recycle container, which does not accept textiles or bulky household goods. Ask the division at (623) 773-7431 about a box spring if one is going at the same time.

Appliances and white goods

Accepted with preparation

Stoves, refrigerators, washers, water heaters, microwaves and dryers are named on the acceptable bulk trash list, and Peoria's own Recycles Day event also takes refrigerators, stoves, microwaves, dishwashers, water heaters, coolers and small window air conditioners. A refrigerator or freezer has one firm preparation rule before either route.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. No additional fee for an appliance on a bulk trash appointment for a resident with an active Solid Waste account, within the two collections a calendar year and the published pile limits. The Recycles Day event is open to residents with proof of residency.
When & how
Put the appliance on a bulk trash appointment at the curb by 6 a.m. on the zone collection date, or take it to the Peoria Recycles Day electronics and shredding event when it runs. The next event is Saturday, November 7, 2026 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Peoria Sports Complex, 16101 N 83rd Ave.
Get it ready
Remove the attached doors, hinges, lids, glass shelves and latches from a refrigerator or freezer before the set-out, because Arizona law requires it for a discarded refrigerator or freezer. Keep hazardous waste out of the pile, since oil, oil based paint, paint thinner, antifreeze, batteries and pool chemicals are refused.

Electronics and televisions

Accepted with preparation

Televisions are on Peoria's acceptable bulk trash list, and the city's Recycles Day event takes computers, monitors, laptops, tablets, small printers, scanners, fax machines, modems, cords, cell phones and game consoles. Electronics and batteries are explicitly excluded from the curbside recycle cart, so neither stream belongs in the blue container.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. No additional fee for a television on a bulk trash appointment for a resident with an active Solid Waste account, within the two collections a calendar year and the pile limits. The Recycles Day event is open to residents and requires proof of residency.
When & how
Add a television to a bulk trash appointment, or take electronics to the next Peoria Recycles Day on Saturday, November 7, 2026 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Peoria Sports Complex, 16101 N 83rd Ave, entering on 83rd Ave and Mariners Way.
Get it ready
Wipe personal data from a computer before it leaves the house, keep electronics and batteries out of the recycle cart because the city lists both as things that do not belong there, and never put a lithium battery in a trash or recycling container because the city reports fires caused by them.

Construction and renovation debris

Special rules apply

Renovation material is refused by the bulk trash program, which names rock, bricks, dirt, blocks, gravel, concrete, shingles, dry wall, tile, mortar and sod as unacceptable. A Peoria household with a renovation load hauls it to one of three area landfills or hires a hauling company.

City cost & eligibility
Peoria publishes no residential rate for construction debris because bulk trash refuses it. The landfill pages state there is a fee to dump and ask residents to call for current rates, so confirm the rate for the load with the site before towing a trailer.
When & how
Take the load to the Deer Valley Transfer Station, the Northwest Regional Landfill or the Glendale Landfill during their posted hours, or hire a local hauling company. Peoria residents must bring a copy of the city utility bill, because a driver's license is not accepted as proof of residency.
Get it ready
Keep dirt, rock, brick, block, gravel, concrete, shingles, dry wall, tile, mortar and sod out of a bulk pile, because the program refuses all of them. At the Deer Valley Transfer Station a hard hat and safety vest are required and can be bought on site, and no site in the list takes tires except the Glendale Landfill, which charges per tire without rims up to five.

Exercise equipment

Accepted with preparation

Exercise equipment is named outright on Peoria's acceptable bulk trash list, so a treadmill, weight bench or home gym goes out on a bulk appointment rather than in a container.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. No additional fee on a bulk trash appointment for a resident with an active Solid Waste account, inside the two collections a calendar year and the 6 by 4 by 3 foot pile limit. An oversized pile may be subject to additional fees.
When & how
Book the appointment online, wait for the confirmation, and set the machine out in the gutter or at the curb by 6 a.m. on the zone collection date, no more than one day in advance.
Get it ready
Take the deck and handles down only as far as the pieces can be handled, keep the machine inside the pile limit and in front of the property where it came from, and take the console or any battery pack out of the load so nothing with a lithium battery rides in a trash or recycle container.

Bulky items and household clutter

Accepted with preparation

Peoria collects large items that will not fit in the residential container through the bulk trash program, which has run by appointment since February 6, 2023 and allows two collections per calendar year for a resident with an active Solid Waste account.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. The city states there is no additional fee for the bulk trash service for residents with active Solid Waste accounts, up to two collections per calendar year, with a pile limit of 6 feet long by 4 feet wide by 3 feet tall. A pile over that limit may be subject to additional fees, and further collections can be booked as a special haul.
When & how
Request the appointment online and wait for the confirmation number, then put the pile out by 6 a.m. on the zone collection date and not more than one day before it. A special haul for another date is booked by phone at (623) 773-7890 between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Get it ready
Place the pile along the gutter or curb in front of the property, keep it off private property and clear of the sidewalk and mailbox, and never build one shared pile with neighbours. Tires in any shape or size, metal or car parts, lithium batteries of any kind, glass including windows, mirrors and fluorescent tubes, and hazardous waste are all refused.

Yard waste and limbs

Accepted with preparation

Yard waste is a separate stream in Peoria: it never goes in the recycle container, and bagged yard waste goes out with the household trash. On a bulk appointment, tree limbs are limited to 3 feet and loose grass, leaves, weeds, twigs and hedge clippings have to be bagged or boxed and tied.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Included with the weekly residential collection for a household with solid waste service, and included on a bulk trash appointment inside the two collections a calendar year and the published pile limits.
When & how
Put bagged yard waste out with the household trash on the weekly collection day, or add prepared yard material to a bulk trash appointment on the zone collection date.
Get it ready
Bag and tie all refuse including yard waste before it goes in the container. On a bulk pile, cut tree limbs to no more than 3 feet, box cacti, and bag, box and tie loose grass, leaves, weeds, twigs and hedge clippings. Do not put yard waste in the recycle container, and keep dirt, rock and sod out of every pile.

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

A bulk pile needs a confirmation number first

Peoria changed bulk trash to a by appointment service in 2023, so the sequence matters more than the pile. Request the appointment, wait for the confirmation number or email, and only then set anything out. Piles are placed in the gutter or at the curb in front of the property by 6 a.m. on the zone collection date and no more than one day in advance, and they must stay clear of the sidewalk, the mailbox and parked cars. A pile that was never scheduled is not collected, and items placed on private property are not serviced and may draw a return fee.

Both containers, one day, four feet apart

Trash and recycling go out on the same collection day, with the containers four feet apart and the rear wheels in the curb area, or on the sidewalk or property edge if the address is on a major arterial. Containers are out by 6 a.m. and returned to private property by 6 p.m. the same day, with the lids closed and nothing hanging over the sides. Everything is bagged and tied before it goes in the container, including yard waste, and a container loaded with dirt, rock, concrete or vehicle parts is not serviced.

A refrigerator or freezer leaves with its doors off

Peoria accepts refrigerators and freezers on a bulk trash appointment, but the unit has to be made safe first: the attached doors, hinges, lids, glass shelves and latches all have to come off, which is the Arizona Revised Statutes 36-1651 rule the city cites on its own acceptable item list. Handle the refrigerant properly when the unit is prepared, and keep the appliance out of the recycle container, which takes no scrap metal or bulky household goods.

Arrange it
Request the appointment online, wait for the confirmation number or email, then put the pile in the gutter or at the curb by 6 a.m. on the zone collection date and no more than one day in advance.

Tires in any shape or size, metal and car parts, lithium batteries, glass including windows and mirrors, fluorescent tubes, hazardous waste, medical waste, rock, brick, dirt, block, gravel, concrete, shingle, dry wall, tile, mortar and sod are all refused, and an unscheduled pile is never collected.

City of Peoria Solid Waste Division

Book a special haul between bulk dates

A household with large bulky items that cannot wait for one of the two yearly bulk appointments.

Cost & conditions
From $65.55 per special haul pickup for every 30 minutes of loading time, with an additional 65 dollars and 55 cents when a large pickup requires a tractor or a roll-off bin, as published on the large item page, and a free quotation for large pickups from the Solid Waste Division at (623) 773-7431. City of Peoria residents with solid waste service, available up to two times a month, with the total added to the monthly utility billing. Confirm the current fee when booking, because the published figure comes from the city's own large item page and the division issues the quotation.
Arrange it
Call the Solid Waste Division at (623) 773-7890 between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, to book the special haul and confirm the loading fee.

The city warns that special haul time slots fill up quickly and that the limit, together with the two yearly bulk collections, may not meet a household's timeframe, so a local hauling company or a landfill trip is the alternative.

Use the Peoria Recycles Day event

A household with electronics, small appliances or documents to shred, including a refrigerator, stove, microwave, dishwasher, water heater, cooler or small window air conditioner.

Cost & conditions
The event is open to residents and asks for proof of residency, and the city does not publish a fee for the electronics or shredding service, so confirm the current terms at (623) 773-7836 or recycle@peoriaaz.gov before loading the car.
Arrange it
Go to the Peoria Sports Complex at 16101 N 83rd Ave, Peoria, AZ 85382, entering from 83rd Ave and Mariners Way. The next event runs Saturday, November 7, 2026 from 8 a.m. to noon.

Documents are limited to three banker or file boxes per household in a box that is not returned, paper clips, rubber bands and staples have to come out, and the accepted appliance and electronics lists are the ones the city publishes rather than a general household clean-out.

Hire a local haul for a renovation load

A household or contractor with construction, demolition or heavy material that the city's bulk program refuses.

Cost & conditions
The city names local hauling companies as an option without publishing rates, so the price comes from the company that supplies the container and the haul. Confirm the accepted material and the rate before ordering.
Arrange it
Contact a licensed hauling or container company to place the box or make the pickup, then have the same company take the material away.

Peoria's bulk program refuses rock, brick, dirt, block, gravel, concrete, shingle, dry wall, tile, mortar and sod, and the city notes that special haul slots are limited, so a renovation load is a private arrangement or a landfill trip.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Peoria residents who receive trash service can dispose of large and bulky items themselves at three area landfills named by the city. The Deer Valley Transfer Station at 22300 N. 21st Ave in Phoenix is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.; the Northwest Regional Landfill at 19401 W Deer Valley Rd in Surprise is open Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and the Glendale Landfill at 11480 W Glendale Ave is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. All three close on Sundays and holidays and all three charge a tipping fee that the city does not publish, so call for the current rate before loading. Residents have to bring a copy of the city utility bill because a driver's license is not accepted as proof of residency, and anyone driving into the Deer Valley Transfer Station needs a hard hat and safety vest, which can be bought on site. Tires are refused at Deer Valley and at the Northwest Regional Landfill, and the Glendale Landfill takes tires without rims up to five at the published per-tire charge. Hazardous material, paint, chemicals, lithium batteries and fluorescent tubes do not belong in any of these loads, and Peoria collects them at the home instead through a household hazardous waste appointment. Transfer station for Peoria residents hauling large items

Deer Valley Transfer Station

22300 N. 21st Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85027

Large and bulky items from City of Peoria residents who receive trash services. The published page lists the site as one of three places a resident can dispose of large items.

Proof of residency has to be a copy of the city utility bill, because the city states a driver's license is not sufficient. A hard hat and safety vest are required to enter and can be purchased on site. Tires are not accepted, and there is a fee to dump, so call for current rates.

Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., closed Sundays and major holidays.

The city states plainly that there is a fee to dump at these locations and asks residents to call for current rates, so confirm the rate for the load before arriving at the scale.
