The local disposal guide
Surprise collects curbside garbage and recycling on the same day once a week, with a 95 gallon trash receptacle provided to each residence and both cans at the curb by 6 a.m. The city also runs two pickup programs for material the cart cannot take. Bulk trash is collected on the household's scheduled day for household items and yard debris, with a ten cubic yard limit per pickup and twenty cubic yards a year at no additional charge, and the pile goes in the street against the gutter rather than on the sidewalk, at least ten feet from any fixed object and never on an arterial or collector road. Appliances are separate: a stove, washer, dryer, refrigerator, trash compactor, air conditioner or empty water heater is removed by appointment for a published per pickup charge on the next utility bill. Household hazardous products and electronics are also separate from each other but both run as driveway pickups from February through November, scheduled in advance and placed against the garage in labeled boxes rather than at the curb. The city's drop-off recycling services are suspended after a fire at the hauler's recycling facility, so the blue curbside can is the recycling route for now, and the city also publishes a no cost single residential load of up to two thousand pounds whose location has to be confirmed with the department.

The handoff matters
The pile goes in the street against the curb or gutter in front of the property, not on the sidewalk or private property, at least ten feet from any fixed object such as a pole, car or fence, and it cannot sit on an arterial or collector road. Break down cardboard, bag small items and loose yard debris, cut branches and large pieces into four foot sections, and put cacti in sturdy boxes. Small debris left behind after the collection is the homeowner's responsibility.
