Match the screen

Flat screen or tube? Start with the shape.

The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.

Flat-screen TVs

Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.

Tube TVs

An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.

TV stands and other electronics

The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

Televisions, computers and electronics

Accepted with preparation

Computers, monitors, electronics and televisions are accepted on the cleanup days when they are placed away from the pile for separate electronic waste collection.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Included with the city's Neighborhood Cleanup days for residential addresses, with the cleanup guide's charges applying only to a pile set out more than 48 hours early or larger than 10 cubic yards. Televisions, computers and other electronic waste are also free residential drop-off items at Kiefer Landfill and the North Area Recovery Station.
When & how
Put screens and computers 1 to 2 feet from the pile on your cleanup date, or drop them at a county facility, erasing personal data before any device leaves your hands.
Get it ready
Set electronics aside from the pile rather than inside it, keep smaller devices together and the screens whole, and remove loose batteries where the device allows so they can be taped and dropped at a hazardous waste facility. Products with built-in batteries go to an electronic waste program, not the hazardous waste drop-off.

Set appliances, electronics, carpeting, mattresses and tires apart from the pile

Appliances, televisions, monitors, computers, electronics, carpeting, mattresses, car seats, toys and up to four tires go to one side of the cleanup pile so they can be collected separately. Place appliances, televisions, monitors and computers 1 to 2 feet from the pile, and keep everything at the curb rather than in the gutter and clear of the sidewalk and of carts and vehicles.

Keep hazardous waste, batteries and propane tanks out of the pile

Batteries, paint, cleaning products, pesticides, propane tanks, medical waste, auto parts, boats and backyard spas are refused on cleanup days, and treated wood is not collected. Take hazardous material to the drop-off facility at the North Area Recovery Station, which takes up to 15 gallons or 125 pounds per month at no charge, put used batteries in a clear bag on top of the blue recycling cart, and arrange medical sharps with Republic Services by appointment.

Use the city's Neighborhood Cleanup days

City residential addresses with furniture, mattresses, appliances, electronics, carpeting, bagged yard clippings, clean wood, plastic pipe, toys or up to four tires inside one 10 cubic yard pile.

Cost & conditions
No charge. Three cleanup days a year are part of the city's contracted residential collection service. The cleanup guide publishes no charge for a pile within 10 cubic yards; a pile set out more than 48 hours early carries an improper large item setout charge and a pile over 10 cubic yards carries a minimum excessive pile charge that rises with the amount of material.
Arrange it
Look up your street's dates on the 2026 cleanup schedule, watch for the door hanger seven days before collection, then put the pile at the curb by 6 a.m. on the day and no more than 48 hours early. Republic Services answers cleanup questions at 916-638-9000.

Construction material, treated wood, steel pipes, auto parts, boats, backyard spas, batteries, propane tanks, medical waste, liquid waste and household hazardous waste are refused, along with commercial or contractor waste. Some HOA streets have coordinated dates instead of the published street schedule.

Self-haul to Kiefer Landfill or the North Area Recovery Station

A household with construction debris, treated wood, a load too large for the cleanup pile, or material the cleanup days refuse.

Cost & conditions
Gate fees are published on separate county schedules that were not retained, so confirm the current rate for the material before loading. Clean bricks, concrete without rebar up to 36 inches, and clean asphalt, tiles, rocks or stucco are free at Kiefer Landfill when the load contains only free items.
Arrange it
Kiefer Landfill is at 12701 Kiefer Blvd. in Sloughhouse, open Monday to Friday 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The North Area Recovery Station is at 4450 Roseville Road in North Highlands, open Monday to Friday 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Pay by cash, credit card or cheque, and arrive at least 15 minutes before closing.

Cover and secure the load because that is the law, remove fluids and removable batteries first, take items with built-in batteries to an electronic waste program, and separate green waste and clean wood for composting. Kiefer Landfill is the only county facility that takes treated wood, and it may close early when the daily vehicle limit is reached.

Drop appliances, electronics and mattresses for free at a county facility

A household with a large appliance, television, computer, mattress or box spring, clean metal, up to four passenger tires, or a small clean load of bricks, concrete or tiles for Kiefer Landfill.

Cost & conditions
No charge. Free residential drop-off at Kiefer Landfill and the North Area Recovery Station when the load contains nothing but free items. Large appliances are limited to two per day and passenger or light truck tires to four per day.
Arrange it
Take the items to Kiefer Landfill at 12701 Kiefer Blvd. in Sloughhouse or the North Area Recovery Station at 4450 Roseville Road in North Highlands during their published hours. Erase personal data before dropping off a computer, television or phone.

A load that mixes free items with other waste is charged the regular gate rate, fluids and removable batteries come out first, batteries and fluids go to a household hazardous waste facility, and items with built-in batteries go to an electronic waste program. Clean bricks, concrete without rebar up to 36 inches, and clean asphalt, tiles, rocks and stucco are free at Kiefer Landfill only.

Take household hazardous waste to the Roseville Road drop-off

A household with batteries, paint, cleaners, pesticides, oil, antifreeze, fluorescent tubes or barbecue propane tanks that cannot go in any cart or in the cleanup pile.

Cost & conditions
No charge. Residents can drop off up to 15 gallons or 125 pounds of household hazardous waste per month at no charge at the North Area Recovery Station hazardous waste facility.
Arrange it
Take the material to 4450 Roseville Road in North Highlands on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday or Saturday between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Keep products in their original containers and upright in a box, and stay in your vehicle on arrival. Kiefer Landfill's antifreeze, battery, oil and paint facility at 12701 Kiefer Blvd. is the alternative.

Ammunition, asbestos, compressed industrial gas, controlled substances, explosives other than road flares, medical waste, polychlorinated biphenyls, radioactive material and treated wood are refused, and products with embedded batteries must go to an electronic waste program instead. Both facilities close on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Citrus Heights households have three cleanup days a year rather than an on-call bulky appointment, so anything the cleanup pile refuses has to go somewhere else. The county's two public facilities take it: the North Area Recovery Station at 4450 Roseville Road in North Highlands and Kiefer Landfill at 12701 Kiefer Blvd. in Sloughhouse both accept household waste, some recyclables and hard to handle items from anyone, they charge gate fees on schedules published separately, they ask that loads be covered and secured because that is the law, and they require fluids and removable batteries to come out first. Large appliances, electronics, mattresses, clean metal and up to four passenger tires are free when a residential load contains nothing but free items, and Kiefer alone takes clean bricks, concrete without rebar and clean asphalt, tiles, rocks and stucco, plus treated wood. Hazardous material goes to the drop-off facility on the Roseville Road site, which takes up to 15 gallons or 125 pounds a month at no charge. Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates offered at checkout and have the TV outside according to your confirmation. We text you when your hauler is on the way and provide photos when the pickup is done.

Will Dropcurb remove my TV from the wall or carry it downstairs?

Yes. Choose Tube TV for an older television with curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Its price is $249 as the first item and $249 as an additional item. A rear-projection television is a different item; send a photo before booking rather than choosing the tube-TV option.

Does my old TV have to work?
