Count each trash bag or filled household box. Books and media go by the box. Clothes, bedding and shoes go by the filled bag. Toys packed together have a Box of toys choice. Ask us about unusually heavy or oversized bags and boxes first.
Empty cardboard is a different choice: choose single empty boxes or tied bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Compacted bales have their own weight-based choices and require loading-dock access. A Storage bin choice covers the empty bin itself; ask us to confirm the contents if they are going too.

Every Daly City household gets one free bulky goods collection each calendar year through Republic Services, scheduled ahead of time on the regular collection day. The load can be up to two cubic yards of contained material plus two bulky items, and the flyer lists the refused material.
Pieces of furniture are named as acceptable bulky items in the free annual collection, so a couch or dresser goes out with the scheduled pickup rather than on a regular cart day.
Mattresses and box springs are named in the bulky item definition and again on the city's mattress page, so the free annual bulky collection is the primary route, with drop-off sites and retailer take back as alternatives.
The flyer names washing machines, dryers, refrigerators and freezers among the two bulky items the annual collection accepts, while microwaves and commercial refrigerators or freezers are refused.
Televisions and computer monitors are the electronic waste the bulky collection accepts, with smaller sets counted toward the container allowance and larger ones counted as a bulky item. Other electronic waste is refused there and moves through the city's free events or the listed drop-off sites.
Concrete, dirt, rock, stucco and treated wood are refused by the bulky collection, and the city requires permitted projects to divert construction and demolition debris under its recycling ordinance instead.
Exercise equipment is not named on the flyer's acceptable or refused lists, so a treadmill or weight machine has to be confirmed with the hauler before it goes out with the annual bulky collection.

Everything has to be bagged, boxed, bundled or otherwise contained, and bundles must be no longer than four feet and no heavier than 60 pounds.
