When & how
Book the pickup with Gilton Solid Waste or Bertolotti Disposal and set the appliance out no earlier than 6:00 PM the evening before the appointment.
Get it ready
Remove all doors from a large appliance before it goes to the curb, and take the propane tank off a barbecue, because the acceptable list names large appliances with all doors removed and barbecues with the propane tank removed.
Bulky items go in the street against the curb in front of the resident's own home, never in the alley. The pile must not block sidewalks, driveways, fire hydrants, storm drains or garbage cans, small items belong in the garbage container rather than the pile, and nothing is set out before 6:00 PM the evening before the scheduled appointment.
A single family residential customer may have two bulky item pickups per calendar year, booked with Gilton Solid Waste or Bertolotti Disposal. The same customer may also use two haul-it-yourself vouchers a calendar year, each covering one truck or trailer load no larger than four feet by four feet by eight feet taken to the provider's transfer station, with the voucher held at the station and valid for seven days. Multi-family residents arrange both through the property manager.
The acceptable list covers air conditioners, doors and ladders, exercise equipment and bicycles, plastic or fake Christmas trees, large appliances with all doors removed, mattresses, couches and chairs, patio furniture and barbecues with the propane tank removed, tables and desks, toilets, sinks, tubs and hot tubs, and water heaters and water softeners. The unacceptable list covers concrete and asphalt, construction and demolition debris, wood and yard waste, dead animals, hazardous waste, chemicals and toxic materials, household garbage, business items, liquids, paints and solvents, plate glass, televisions and computer monitors, and tires and automobile parts.

Request the voucher from your solid waste company, collect it at the transfer station, and use it within seven days. Multi-family residents request the voucher through the property manager or owner.
