City cost & eligibility
No charge. The village states that Groot collects white goods once a week at no extra cost, and the household must call Groot on 800.244.1977 to schedule the collection with the item kept off the curb until the evening before the scheduled day. Confirm with Groot how the refrigerant is handled before a refrigerator, freezer or air conditioner goes out.

Empty the unit, remove food and loose parts, tape or remove the doors so they cannot close on a child, and tell Groot whether the appliance cools so the refrigerant question is settled before pickup.
The village divides Arlington Heights into four quadrants so that refuse, recycling and landscape waste are all collected on the same day, with the operator working between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Everything has to be at the curb by 7 a.m. and the hauler will not come back for anything that was not out.
