City cost & eligibility
A mattress is inside the bulky items that come with the refuse service, so no separate mattress price is published. The operator's oversized and overweight clause can still apply, and it states that special arrangements carry special charges, so confirm with Groot on 847-734-6400 before setting out a heavy bed frame or an assembled box spring.
When & how
Set the mattress and box spring at the curb on the normal collection day by 7 a.m. There is no mattress appointment to book.
Get it ready
Bag or wrap the mattress so it stays dry and can be lifted, keep it out of the carts, and count the mattress and the box spring as two separate items even though both fit the same list.
The village divides Arlington Heights into four quadrants so that refuse, recycling and landscape waste are all collected on the same day, with the operator working between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Everything has to be at the curb by 7 a.m. and the hauler will not come back for anything that was not out. Carts may not sit in the street, must be 10 feet from parkway trees and mailboxes and 4 feet from other carts, must come off the curb by 8 a.m. the day after collection, and may not be stored in the front yard. Up to one cubic yard of construction material a week is collected at no additional charge as well. The counterweight to all of this is the operator's own warning that a piece too big or too heavy for its crew may be left behind, in which case a special arrangement and a special charge follow.
