Laptops are accepted at no charge, and there is a limit of two computer equipment items per visit. A business credit card or a commercial vehicle is charged the non-residential rate, and payment is by card only.

North Mecklenburg Disposal and Recycling Center, 12300 N. Statesville Road, Huntersville, Monday through Saturday 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. All four county full-service centers keep the same hours and close on the listed holidays.
Get it ready
Back up and wipe the drive before the device leaves your home. Keep the equipment loose rather than bagged with household trash, and count the items in your load, because the two item limit applies to computer equipment. Business and non-residential loads are not allowed at the North Mecklenburg site on Saturdays.
Mecklenburg County residents display a free blue entry sticker at the full-service centers and show proof of residence such as a driver's license. Without a sticker the load is charged at the out of county category, and a non-county resident can buy an annual sticker. Payment is by debit card or a major credit card except American Express, and the centers take no cash and no checks.

One large bulky item such as a sofa, a chair, a table or a mattress set is no charge for a county resident with a blue sticker in a non-commercial vehicle. More bulky items or a load under three cubic yards is charged per unit for bulky waste and per unit for construction and demolition debris, and a weighed load is charged per ton with a load minimum. Laptops are free and other computers carry a set charge. Household hazardous waste is free for county residents. Confirm the category at the fee booth.
Arrange it
Drive to 12300 N. Statesville Road, Huntersville, NC 28078, open Monday through Saturday 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Because of construction congestion, business and non-residential loads and dump trailers are not allowed there on Saturdays. The site is currently only selling bagged mulch and compost.
Loads must arrive separated by material, and a mixed load is not accepted or is charged at the construction rate. Delivery is capped at fourteen cubic yards, mattresses and box springs are limited to one each, computer equipment is limited to two items, tires are limited to five, and residential households are limited to two televisions per visit per month. The county does not accept ceramics such as picture frames and vases, or explosives, ammunition and radioactive items. Phone 311 or 980-314-3867.

The town states that residents may contract with a private hauler for bulk items, and each company sets its own price for the load, so the cost is quoted by the hauler you choose rather than published by the town.

A private hauler is the route the town names for bulk items, but the town publishes no rate, no hauler list and no item guarantee, and hazardous material cannot be collected this way because household hazardous waste is free to county residents only at the county centers.
A Cornelius household hauls bulky material rather than setting it out, because the town provides garbage, recycling and yard waste collection only. What can go out with yard waste?+
Yard waste is collected weekly on the same day as garbage, in bags of 50 pounds or less, with up to 20 bags of leaves a week. Limbs must be no larger than five inches in diameter and no longer than four feet and stacked in piles no bigger than four by four by four feet with two feet between piles.
