The move is nearly done.
Book the unwanted bags and boxes left after packing. Choose an available pickup day before you hand back the keys, and arrange to have them outside.
The clear-out can be finished.
You do not need a whole house of junk. Select the bags, boxes and larger items you actually have. Your combined price is shown online.
You want to know it is handled.
When the next collection does not fit your plans, choose a Dropcurb pickup day. Updates keep you informed, and completion photos show when the booked items are gone.
A few simple choices turn a mixed pile into a clear booking. No need to estimate how much of a truck it might fill.
Filled bags and boxes
Count each trash bag or filled household box. Books and media go by the box. Clothes, bedding and shoes go by the filled bag. Toys packed together have a Box of toys choice. Ask us about unusually heavy or oversized bags and boxes first.
Empty cardboard and containers
Empty cardboard is a different choice: choose single empty boxes or tied bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Compacted bales have their own weight-based choices and require loading-dock access. A Storage bin choice covers the empty bin itself; ask us to confirm the contents if they are going too.
Furniture and other larger items
Add the actual larger item alongside your bags and boxes, such as a sofa, chair or mattress. It has its own price and preparation. Keep construction materials and items needing special handling out of ordinary household bags.

Albany runs its bulky collection inside the regular city service. Furniture and other bulky trash, plus white goods such as appliances, water heaters and tires, go to the curb in limited quantities after a call to the Department of General Services at least 24 hours ahead.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. No per item charge applies, because the annual waste collection fee billed to residential properties of four units or less covers all waste collection pickup. Excessive quantities, meaning a pile not manageable by one person, a pile that will not load into the collection vehicle, or one needing more than four trips, may draw a bill and a fine.
When & how
Call the Department of General Services at (518) 427-7480 at least 24 hours before your collection day, during normal business hours Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., then set the load at the curb before 12:01 a.m. on the collection day and not before 4:30 p.m. the prior day. Every holiday runs a normal collection schedule in Albany.
Get it ready
Use containers with a lid and no more than 50 gallons for bagged waste, and keep containers out of public view when they are not at the curb. Keep yard waste out of the bulky pile and put it in biodegradable bags or bundles on a regular trash day between April 15 and December 1, because stumps, logs, entire trees, stones, bricks and excessive dirt are refused. Electronics and hazardous products never go in the pile.
Bulk trash and white goods are collected in limited quantities, but only after the Department of General Services is told about them at (518) 427-7480 at least 24 hours before the collection day. The line is answered Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Keep each load to something one person can manage and load within four trips, because an excessive pile can be billed and fined.
Trash, recycling and bulky items go to the curb before 12:01 a.m. on the collection day and never before 4:30 p.m. the day before. Bagged waste goes in metal or plastic containers with a lid and no more than 50 gallons, and containers may not be stored in public view when they are not at the curb. Every holiday runs a normal collection schedule here.
Keep electronics and hazardous products out of every pile
Electronics and household hazardous waste are not accepted at the curb, and New York State law bars electronics from the trash and from landfills. Take electronics to the Department of General Services at 1 Richard J. Conners Blvd. with identification, and keep paint, solvents, gasoline, pool chemicals, batteries and mercury items out of the trash, the recycling bin and any bulky pile.
The city normally holds nine free household hazardous waste events a year at the Rapp Road landfill, but it states that no more events will be held in 2026 and that pre-registration is closed for the year. Until events return, PaintCare locations take unused paints, stains, sealers and deck coatings free all year, and most Home Depot and Lowe's stores take rechargeable batteries and intact compact fluorescent bulbs at checkout bins.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.
City of Albany Department of General Services residential collection
City curbside bulky and white goods collection
Furniture, appliances and other white goods, water heaters, tires, toilets and porcelain fixtures, and limited amounts of construction debris from a residential property of four units or less.
Cost & conditions
No charge. No per item charge, because the annual waste collection fee billed to residential properties of four units or less covers all waste collection pickup. Excessive quantities may draw a bill and a fine.
Arrange it
Call the Department of General Services at (518) 427-7480 at least 24 hours before your collection day, Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., then place the load at the curb before 12:01 a.m. on the collection day and not before 4:30 p.m. the prior day.
Limited quantities only, and the pile has to be manageable by one person and loadable within four trips. Electronics and household hazardous waste are not accepted curbside, mattresses need their own scheduled pickup, construction debris is capped at twice a month and must be containerized or bundled, and buildings with more than four units are outside the city programme.
City of Albany Department of General Services residential collection
Rapp Road landfill
The city landfill, where collection trucks and private haulers deliver waste and where the city holds its household hazardous waste and electronics collection events.
Cost & conditions
The city publishes no residential self-haul rate for this facility on its website, and its page describes incoming trucks rather than a resident drop-off lane, so the current terms have to come from the facility. Call 518-869-3651 before planning a trip.
Arrange it
The facility is at 525 Rapp Road, Albany, NY 12205 and answers at 518-869-3651. Household hazardous waste and electronics collection events are held here and require pre-registration.
Open Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. with the last load in at 10:30 a.m., and closed Saturday and Sunday, so any trip has to happen in a short morning window. The city does not publish a residential self-haul programme or rate for this site.
Households and property managers in buildings with more than four units, or in commercial and mixed occupancy properties, where the city does not collect waste.
Cost & conditions
Properties with more than four residential units and commercial properties are required to arrange and pay for their own private trash collection, and each company sets its own price. Nothing is published by the city.
Arrange it
The property owner or manager contracts a private hauler for the building, and the city's waste collection fee does not apply to those properties.
The city programme, including curbside bulky collection and the mattress pickup, is limited to residential properties of four units or less, so a larger building handles its own collection, including any bulky items.
Most of Albany's bulky material does not need a trip, because furniture, appliances and other white goods are collected at the curb once the Department of General Services is called at least 24 hours ahead, and mattresses are collected on a scheduled pickup after they are wrapped. What cannot go to the curb is electronics, which go to the Department of General Services at 1 Richard J. Conners Blvd. with identification, and household hazardous waste, which the city normally takes at nine free events a year at the Rapp Road landfill but which is closed for the rest of 2026. While the events are closed, PaintCare locations take unused paints, stains, sealers and deck coatings, and most home improvement stores take rechargeable batteries and intact compact fluorescent bulbs at their checkout bins. The Rapp Road landfill itself is open only Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. with the last load in at 10:30 a.m., and the city's published pages list no residential rate and no self-haul lane there, so call 518-869-3651 before planning a trip. Rapp Road Waste Management Facility
525 Rapp Road, Albany, NY 12205
Municipal solid waste delivered by the city's collection trucks and by municipal and private hauler trucks, and it is the site of the city's household hazardous waste and electronics collection events.
The city's published pages list no residential self-haul lane here, no accepted-material list for households and no residential rate, so call 518-869-3651 before planning to bring anything yourself. Household hazardous waste and electronics arrive only through the pre-registered collection events, not as a general drop-off.
Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., with the last load in at 10:30 a.m., and closed Saturday and Sunday. Phone 518-869-3651, email coalandfill@albanyny.gov, odor complaint line 518-453-8288.
No residential rate is published on the city's website for this facility, so the current terms have to come from the operator. The city page describes an average of about 1,050 tons a day arriving by truck rather than a resident drop-off lane.

Before you book
A few things worth knowing.
Bulk junk removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Albany.
How much does bulk junk removal cost in Albany?+
A trash bag is $59 as the first item and $10 additional. A filled household box is $59 as the first item. Add your actual items and quantities to see the combined price before booking. Loading, transportation and disposal are included; any applicable sales tax is shown before payment.
Can you pick up bags of junk today?+
Book by 2pm in the pickup address’s local time for same-day pickup. Available dates appear at checkout. Have the booked bags and boxes outside and accessible according to your confirmation. You receive pickup updates and completion photos; the booking is for a day rather than an exact arrival time.
Do I count every object inside a bag or box?+
No. Count the filled bags or boxes using the matching choice. Books and media go in Filled household box; clothes, bedding and shoes go in Bag of clothes & bedding; packed toys have a Box of toys choice. Empty cardboard is separate, with individual empty boxes and bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Heavy, oversized or unusual contents need a photo review before booking.
Can you pick up a small loose pile of household junk?+
Yes. Estimate how many trash bags the small household pile would fill, and bag or box as much as possible. Select furniture and other larger items separately. There is no extra charge just because the pile is loose. Send a photo first if the count or contents are unclear. A household Dumpster Bag choice does not accept construction debris.
Can I book bags, boxes and furniture together?+
Yes. Select the bags and boxes, then add each larger item using its own catalog choice. The booking shows one combined price for the selected items. Move everything to an accessible outdoor spot before pickup; indoor carrying and sorting are not included. Keep anything you want to retain apart from the booked items and identify what goes in your photos and notes.
Does Albany collect bulky items at the curb?+
Yes. Bulk trash such as furniture, mattresses and toilets, and bulky recyclables such as appliances, water heaters and tires, are collected at the curb in limited quantities. Call the Department of General Services at least 24 hours before your collection day so the pickup is scheduled, and keep the pile to something one person can manage.Official guidance
What does curbside collection cost in Albany?+
Albany charges an annual waste collection fee of 180 dollars per unit on residential homes of four units or less, and since 2026 that appears as a separate fee on the property tax bill. The fee covers waste collection pickup, so there is no separate charge for a bulky item, and properties with more than four units pay for private collection instead.Official guidance
Who collects trash in Albany and which properties are covered?+
The Department of General Services collects household trash and recycling from residential properties of four units or less, with trash out before 12:01 a.m. on the collection day and not before 4:30 p.m. the day before. Buildings with more than four units and commercial properties arrange and pay for their own private collection. Every holiday runs a normal schedule here.Official guidance
Where do electronics go if they cannot go at the curb?+
New York State law bars electronics from the trash and from landfills, and the city asks residents not to put a television or other electronics out for collection. Take them to the Department of General Services at 1 Richard J. Conners Blvd. during business hours, show identification and register at the front desk, or pre-register for a city electronics collection event at the Rapp Road landfill.Official guidance
Are household hazardous waste events running in Albany right now?+
Not for the rest of 2026. The city normally holds nine free collection events a year at the Rapp Road landfill, but it states that no further events will be held in 2026 and that pre-registration has closed for the year. Until they return, PaintCare locations take unused paints and stains free all year, and most home improvement stores take rechargeable batteries and intact compact fluorescent bulbs at checkout bins.Official guidance
