City cost & eligibility
No charge. Town of Little Elm residential accounts within the six cubic yard bulk allowance, with refrigerated units accepted only when the refrigerant has been removed by a professional and the appliance carries a label indicating the removal; the Clean and Green events also take refrigerators and freezers with Freon removed by a contractor on site, free to residents.
When & how
Arrange the refrigerant removal and label first, then set the unit out on the bulk week collection day by 7 a.m., or take a refrigerator or freezer to the next Clean and Green event where Freon is removed on site.
Get it ready
Drain a water heater before it goes out, empty and clean every unit, secure or remove the doors, and keep the refrigerant label visible on a refrigerator or freezer because the bulk route will not take an unlabelled refrigerated unit.
Weekly carts go out by seven and stay clear of obstacles
Trash and recycling are each collected once a week by Community Waste Disposal. Trash has to be bagged, both carts go to the kerb by 7 a.m. and are emptied between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on the service day, lids have to be closed, and carts must sit at least three feet from obstacles such as mailboxes, cars, fences, gas meters and drainage ditches, with the recycling cart three feet from the trash can as well. Overloaded carts or carts blocked by cars are not serviced, and the town lists the common red tag causes as a cart too close to a fixed object, a lid not fully closed, a cart out of reach, hazardous waste and a bulk item left out that was too large for the cart.
Bulk trash is collected on the household's regularly scheduled trash and recycling day during its bulk week, and every address is on either a first and third week or a second and fourth week schedule. The limit is six cubic yards per pickup, everything goes in the grassy area between the sidewalk and the kerb in front of the home even when the regular carts are collected from the alley, and the crew removes it by 7 p.m. on the collection day. There is no need to schedule a pickup: the pile simply has to be out by 7 a.m. on the right day, and the town warns that items left at the kerb in the wrong week can attract a red tag.
Chemicals, tires and contractor debris need another route
The bulk route refuses household hazardous waste including paint, motor oil, pool chemicals, fuel, poisons, fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, fluorescent lamps and bulbs, lamp ballasts, smoke detectors, medical waste and some cleaning chemicals, along with tires, batteries, car parts and loose debris. Construction and remodeling debris is refused too, with the town directing residents to Community Waste Disposal for an estimate. Two town routes cover part of the gap: the Courtesy Drop Site at 1690 E. Eldorado Parkway takes furniture, mattresses, metal, brush and limbs, sealed cooking oil, cardboard and general waste from residents with an active account, but refuses household hazardous waste and contractor debris, and the bi-annual Clean and Green events take household hazardous waste, refrigerators and freezers with Freon removed on site, kitchen appliances, washers and dryers, used electronics and tires with the rims removed, free to residents who bring a water bill and photo identification.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.
