The local disposal guide

Will the city
take it?

Roanoke collects trash and recycling once a week on Tuesdays and adds a bundled brush and bulky collection twice a month, on the second and fourth Tuesdays, when furniture, boxes, other household items too big for the cart, cut and tied brush and resident generated construction debris all come off the kerb inside a two cubic yard limit. Anything beyond that can be booked as an on-call fee pickup with the hauler, or hauled to the staffed dumpsters at the public works yard on Marshall Creek Road, which open by appointment on weekday mornings, charge the load to the water account and take household items, bagged garbage, recyclables, bulk trash and old furniture. Those dumpsters are also where the town draws its line: appliances, computers and electronics, fluids, paint, shingles and construction or demolition material are refused. Household chemicals go a different way entirely, to the Fort Worth Environmental Collection Center under a voucher issued at the public works yard so that the city, not the resident, is billed.

Couches, sofas and household furniture

Accepted with preparation

Furniture is named in the city's service guide as collected with the twice monthly brush and bulky pickup, and old furniture is on the accepted list at the public works dumpsters.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. City of Roanoke residential accounts on the Republic Services collection, within the two cubic yards allowed at each second and fourth Tuesday bulky collection; the public works dumpsters are a separate appointment route that charges the load to the water account.
When & how
Put the furniture at the kerb for the second or fourth Tuesday bulky collection, out by 7 a.m., keeping inside the two cubic yard limit, or book an appointment at the public works dumpsters on 817-491-6099 for a weekday morning between 7:00 AM and 3:00 PM.
Get it ready
Keep the pile inside about 3 feet by 3 feet by 6 feet, tie or contain anything that could scatter, keep containers and bundles under 50 pounds, and keep appliances, electronics, fluids, paint, shingles and construction material out of the load because the public works dumpsters refuse them.

Mattresses and box springs

Special rules apply

No Roanoke page names a mattress on an accepted list, so bedding has to be confirmed as a bulky item before it goes to the kerb or to the dumpsters.

City cost & eligibility
The city guide describes the bulky collection as household items too big for the cart and the dumpster page lists bulk trash and old furniture, but neither names a mattress, and no fee is published, so confirm with the utility billing office at 817-491-2411 or public works at 817-491-6099 before the mattress is moved.
When & how
Call utility billing at 817-491-2411 or public works at 817-491-6099 first, then use the second or fourth Tuesday bulky collection inside the two cubic yard limit or an appointed dumpster visit.
Get it ready
Keep the mattress dry and liftable, remove the frame and headboard because they are separate pieces, and keep it out of the green cart and clear of parked cars and boats so the kerb is not obstructed.

Appliances and white goods

Special rules apply

Appliances are expressly refused at the public works dumpsters and are not named for the kerb collection, so the route has to come from the city rather than from this guide.

City cost & eligibility
The dumpster page puts appliances on its not accepted list and the guide names no appliance rule for the kerb, so confirm with utility billing at 817-491-2411 or public works at 817-491-6099 what can be done with a white good, and ask about refrigerant handling for a refrigerator or freezer.
When & how
Call the city before the appliance leaves the house, and keep it out of both the kerb pile and the dumpster load until the route is confirmed, because the dumpsters will refuse it at the gate.
Get it ready
Empty and clean the unit, secure or remove the doors, and do not place an appliance in a container with other waste, because the dumpster rules allow the city to refuse any waste it deems unacceptable and non-compactable material has to be containerised.

Televisions

Special rules apply

Computers and electronics are refused at the public works dumpsters and no television route is published, so a set has to be confirmed with the city.

City cost & eligibility
The dumpster page refuses computers and electronics and the hazardous waste page lists chemicals, paint, batteries and oils but no televisions, so confirm with utility billing at 817-491-2411 or public works at 817-491-6099 whether a television can go out with the bulky collection or has to go elsewhere.
When & how
Call the city before the set is moved and keep it out of the dumpster load, which will refuse electronics at the gate, and out of the recycling cart, which the city limits to paper, glass, metal and plastic containers.
Get it ready
Keep the screen whole and dry and wipe anything that stores data, and do not break the set down into a general waste load because the dumpsters refuse electronics as a category.

Computers and household electronics

Special rules apply

The city refuses computers and electronics at the public works dumpsters and publishes no other electronics route, so devices stay confirm instructions.

City cost & eligibility
The dumpster page refuses computers and electronics, and no published Roanoke page offers an alternative, so confirm with the city at 817-491-2411 before a computer, monitor or printer is set out or loaded.
When & how
Call utility billing at 817-491-2411 or public works at 817-491-6099 for the current route, and keep devices out of the kerb pile and the dumpster load in the meantime.
Get it ready
Wipe stored data from computers, phones and drives, keep power supplies and cables with each device, and do not hide devices in a bagged garbage load at the dumpsters, because the city reserves the right to refuse unacceptable waste at the gate.
City bulk dumpster drop-off page with the Marshall Creek Road address, the residents-only appointment rule, the dumping hours, the vehicle fee schedule, the identification requirement and the accepted and refused item lists

Residential construction and remodeling debris

Special rules apply

The city guide collects construction debris generated from the residence on the twice monthly bulky day, while the public works dumpsters refuse construction and demolition material outright.

City cost & eligibility
The kerb collection takes resident generated construction debris inside the two cubic yard bulky allowance, but the dumpsters refuse construction and demolition material and publish a fee schedule for what they do take, so confirm the load with the city at 817-491-2411 before it is set out or hauled.
When & how
Put resident generated debris out with the second or fourth Tuesday bulky collection, keeping the volume inside two cubic yards, and do not take construction or demolition material to the dumpsters, which refuse it.
Get it ready
Cut brush to 4 foot lengths and tie it in bundles, place non-compactable material such as brick, concrete, dirt and composition shingles in containers, and keep every container and bundle under 50 pounds. Anything a contractor produced has to be handled by the contractor and not left at the kerb.

Exercise equipment

Special rules apply

Exercise equipment is not named on any Roanoke list, so a treadmill or weight machine has to be confirmed against the bulky allowance before it goes out.

City cost & eligibility
No Roanoke page names exercise equipment and no fee is published for a bulky item, so confirm with the hauler at 1-800-333-7301 or with utility billing at 817-491-2411 whether the machine fits the two cubic yard collection or needs the on-call fee service.
When & how
Call the hauler at 1-800-333-7301 or utility billing at 817-491-2411 before setting the machine out, then use the second or fourth Tuesday collection or the on-call service if it is confirmed.
Get it ready
Strip the console and any loose weights so the frame is as light as possible, fold the deck where the manufacturer allows, keep the item under the 50 pound per bundle and container rule wherever it applies, and keep it clear of parked cars and the street edge.

Bulky items and household cleanouts

Accepted with preparation

Bulky material is collected twice a month on the second and fourth Tuesday inside a two cubic yard limit, with an on-call fee service for extra loads and an appointment dumpster site for residents.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. City of Roanoke residential accounts on the Republic Services collection, for up to two cubic yards of bundled brush and bulky material at each second and fourth Tuesday collection; the public works dumpsters are an appointment route billed to the water account, and the hauler's on-call service carries a minimum charge.
When & how
Set the load at the kerb by 7 a.m. on the second or fourth Tuesday of the month, or book an appointment at the public works dumpsters on 817-491-6099 for a weekday slot between 7:00 AM and 3:00 PM.
Get it ready
Keep each collection inside about 3 feet by 3 feet by 6 feet, cut brush to 4 foot lengths and tie it, containerise non-compactable material such as brick, concrete, dirt and shingles, and keep every container and bundle under 50 pounds. At the dumpsters, bring a valid identification and a current water bill with the same name, and expect the city to refuse anything it deems unacceptable, including appliances, electronics, fluids, paint and shingles.

Everything runs off Tuesday

Trash and recycling are collected once a week on Tuesdays, and the bundled brush and bulky collection runs twice a month on the second and fourth Tuesday. Carts go out by 7 a.m., two feet apart and away from the edge of the street, with handles facing the house so the lid opens toward the street, and clear of parked cars and boats. The recyclable list is paper including cereal and cracker boxes, newspaper, junk mail, magazines and telephone books, plastic bottles and containers labelled 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7, all colors of glass, tin and metal cans, aluminum cans and corrugated cardboard, and the 2026 monthly residential rate covers the trash cart and the recycling service on the utility bill.

Bulky collection is two cubic yards, twice a month

The bulky and brush collection is not a cleanout service: it runs on the second and fourth Tuesday and takes up to two cubic yards, which the guide describes as roughly 3 feet by 3 feet by 6 feet. Furniture, boxes and other household items too big for the cart are collected, along with brush cut to 4 foot lengths and tied in bundles and construction debris generated from the residence. Non-compactable material such as brick, concrete, dirt and composition shingles has to be placed in containers, and no container or bundle may weigh more than 50 pounds. Larger loads can be booked as an on-call fee service with the hauler, and extra pickups carry a minimum charge paid in advance.

The dumpsters take household waste, the voucher takes the chemicals

Roanoke residents may use the dumpsters at the Public Works facility on 265 Marshall Creek Road by appointment only, booked on 817-491-6099, with six slots an hour between 7:00 AM and 3:00 PM Monday to Friday. A valid identification and a current water bill showing the same name are required at the gate, the load is charged to the monthly water billing account, and the city reserves the right to refuse unacceptable waste. The site takes residential household items, bagged garbage, recyclables, bulk trash and old furniture, and it refuses appliances, auto parts, computers and electronics, large pieces of concrete or rock, explosives or ammunition, gasoline, oil, antifreeze and other fluids, paint and thinners, shingles, construction and demolition materials and commercial waste. Household chemicals go instead to the Fort Worth Environmental Collection Center at 6400 Bridge Street, and Roanoke residents need a voucher from the public works department so the center bills the city rather than the resident; the accepted list covers acids, aerosols, antifreeze, batteries, brake fluid, craft chemicals, degreasers, drain cleaners, fertilizers, fluorescent lights, gasoline, glue, herbicides, household chemicals and cleaners, motor oil, paints and stains, paint thinners, pest strips, pesticides, photo chemicals, pool chemicals, oil filters, solvents, transmission fluid and varnishes.

A Roanoke household with furniture, boxes, cut brush or household items too big for the cart and no more than about two cubic yards of it.

Cost & conditions
No charge. City of Roanoke residential accounts on the Republic Services collection, for up to two cubic yards of bundled brush and bulky material at each second and fourth Tuesday collection.
Arrange it
Put the load at the kerb by 7 a.m. on the second or fourth Tuesday of the month, keeping inside about 3 feet by 3 feet by 6 feet and clear of parked cars and the street edge.

Book the public works bulk dumpsters

A Roanoke resident with bagged garbage, recyclables, bulk trash or old furniture who can take it to Marshall Creek Road on a weekday morning.

Cost & conditions
From $25 per vehicle under the fee schedule published on the city clean-up page, with $50 for a vehicle with a trailer, charged to the monthly water billing account. Roanoke residents only and by appointment only, with a valid identification and a current water bill showing the same name presented before entry; the fee schedule sits on a page effective April 20, 2020, so confirm the current amount with public works at 817-491-6099.
Arrange it
Call 817-491-6099 to book one of six appointment slots per hour between 7:00 AM and 3:00 PM Monday to Friday, bring the identification and the water bill, and arrive within the booked time because a missed slot has to be rescheduled.

Residents only, appointment only, and the city may refuse any waste it deems unacceptable. Appliances, auto parts, computers and electronics, large concrete or rock, explosives or ammunition, gasoline, oil, antifreeze and fluids, paint and thinners, shingles, construction and demolition material and commercial waste are all refused.

Take household chemicals to Fort Worth with a voucher

A Roanoke household holding acids, aerosols, antifreeze, batteries, brake fluid, drain cleaners, fertilizers, fluorescent lights, gasoline, herbicides, motor oil, paints and stains, thinners, pesticides, pool chemicals, solvents or varnishes.

Cost & conditions
The city publishes the Fort Worth arrangement and the voucher requirement but no fee, and the voucher exists so that the collection center bills Roanoke rather than the resident, so confirm the current terms with public works at 817-491-6099 and the center's days and hours at 817-392-1234.
Arrange it
Collect a voucher from the Public Works Department at 265 Marshall Creek Road, then deliver the material to the Fort Worth Environmental Collection Center at 6400 Bridge Street, calling 817-392-1234 for the current days and hours.

Roanoke residents need the voucher, because without it the center would charge the household instead of the city, and the accepted list covers chemicals, paints, batteries, oils and fluorescent lights rather than appliances, televisions or computers.

With a new purchase

Book an on-call brush and bulky pickup

A household whose bulky or brush load is larger than the two cubic yards allowed on the scheduled Tuesday collection.

Cost & conditions
The hauler offers an on-call fee service for special brush and bulky requests and states only that extra pickups carry a minimum charge payable in advance, so the amount comes from Republic Services at 1-800-333-7301.
Arrange it
Call Republic Services at 1-800-333-7301, describe the volume and material, pay the minimum charge in advance, and set the load out for the arranged day.

This is a paid service rather than the included twice monthly collection, and the city's own dumpster site still refuses appliances, electronics, fluids, paint and construction and demolition material.

Set up carts and billing

A Roanoke residential customer who needs the standard trash and recycling carts or wants to change the billing arrangement.

Cost & conditions
$16.46 per month for a residential account under the 2026 rates, made up of $12.19 for trash and $4.27 for recycling, with an additional trash cart at $5.98 per month and backdoor service at $20.70 per month. The rate covers one trash cart and the recycling service, additional carts and backdoor service are extra, and the collection schedule still depends on the Tuesday and second and fourth Tuesday calendar.

How does a couch leave a Roanoke home?

Through the brush and bulky collection that runs twice a month on the second and fourth Tuesdays, when the hauler takes furniture, boxes and other household items too big for the cart inside a two cubic yard limit. Everything goes out by 7 a.m. Old furniture is also accepted at the public works dumpsters on Marshall Creek Road, which are open by appointment only on weekday mornings and charge the load to the water account.Official guidance

Will Roanoke collect a mattress?

The city does not name mattresses on any published list, so the item has to be confirmed rather than assumed. The bulky collection takes household items too big for the cart on the second and fourth Tuesdays, and the public works dumpsters accept bulk trash and old furniture by appointment, so call utility billing at 817-491-2411 or public works at 817-491-6099 before setting a mattress out.Official guidance

Will Roanoke take an old appliance?

Appliances are on the not accepted list at the public works dumpsters on Marshall Creek Road, and the city's service guide does not name them for the kerb collection either, so the route has to be confirmed. Call utility billing at 817-491-2411 or public works at 817-491-6099 and ask about refrigerant handling before a refrigerator or freezer leaves the property.Official guidance

Will Roanoke take construction debris?

It depends on the route. The city's service guide says construction debris generated from the residence is collected with the twice monthly brush and bulky pickup, worth about two cubic yards, with non-compactables such as brick, concrete, dirt and shingles placed in containers under 50 pounds. The public works dumpsters refuse any construction or demolition material, so a project load that is not resident generated has to be arranged separately.Official guidance

How much bulky waste can a Roanoke home put out?

Anything larger can be booked as an on-call fee service through Republic Services at 1-800-333-7301, or hauled to the public works dumpsters by appointment at 817-491-6099, where the fee is charged to the water account.Official guidance
