The local disposal guide

Will the city
take it?

Dublin has one franchise hauler, Amador Valley Industries, collecting compost, recycling and landfill material every week and running the large item service. A single family household gets three free large item collections each contract year, from July 1 to June 30, and each pickup has to fit inside seven cubic yards. Mattresses, furniture, appliances, televisions and up to four car tires without rims all ride that service, while dirt, concrete and hazardous material never do. Renovation work is separate again: the city requires 65 to 75 per cent diversion and names AVI as the only allowed hauler.

Everything has to fit in seven cubic yards

A large item collection is limited to a seven cubic yard space, about nine feet long, four feet wide and five feet tall, which the hauler compares to roughly 42 full 35 gallon bags. Small items go in a disposable box or bag, yard clippings and wood are bundled, boxed or bagged and no longer than four feet, and glass is boxed and bundled securely. Dirt, concrete and hazardous materials are refused, and no single item may weigh over 60 pounds except furniture and appliances.

Compost, recycling and landfill each have their own cart

Amador Valley Industries collects all three streams weekly. Compost takes food scraps, food-soiled paper and plant debris; recycling takes clean paper and cardboard, plastic bottles and containers, glass bottles and jars and metal and aluminum cans; and landfill takes what is neither, such as plastic bags and wrappers, polystyrene foam, waxed drink cartons, utensils and straws, diapers and pet waste. Hazardous waste does not belong in any of the containers, and under Senate Bill 1383 every resident and business has to keep food and compostable material out of the landfill stream.

Chemicals, batteries and paint leave through the county

Hazardous waste never goes in a cart. Amador Valley Industries also runs a one-day household hazardous waste drop-off event for Dublin residents once a year, leftover paint can go to the Sherwin-Williams or Kelly-Moore stores in Dublin where the can carries a valid PaintCare label, and StopWaste's guide and hotline at 877-786-7927 answer the rest.

Haul the project through the franchise hauler

Dublin construction and demolition projects that need a container and have diversion requirements to meet.

Cost & conditions
The city publishes no container or tipping rate and the hauler quotes its own dumpster and construction box charges, so confirm the size, the haul and the current charge with Amador Valley Industries.
Arrange it
