The local disposal guide
Hayward contracts its garbage and recycling service to Waste Management of Alameda County, and the city publishes the rates that go with it. Households get a weekly cart in one of four sizes, out by 6 a.m. with the wheels against the curb, and everything has to be bagged with the lid closed. Large household items move through the bulky program instead, which the city rate schedule sets at two cubic yards twice a year, with an overage charge beyond that and a trip charge for extra pickups. The city also gives each household one self-hauling coupon a year for up to two cubic yards of garbage at the Davis Street Transfer Station, and household hazardous waste and electronics go free to the Alameda County collection facility on West Winton Avenue in Hayward itself.

Exercise equipment is not named in any published Hayward list, and the bulky program is published by volume rather than by item, so a treadmill or weight machine has to be confirmed.
