Match the screen

Flat screen or tube? Start with the shape.

The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.

Flat-screen TVs

Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.

Tube TVs

An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.

TV stands and other electronics

The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

Televisions, computers and other electronics

Accepted with preparation

Televisions and computer monitors are named on the city's bulky waste list, with the requirement that the resident flags them when booking the pickup, and the residential service also includes a curbside e-waste pickup by appointment through Republic Services. The Special Waste Collection Center takes e-waste as well, and an appliance with a circuit board counts as e-waste rather than an appliance.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Free to Elk Grove residents: the curbside e-waste pickup is part of the residential service by appointment with Republic Services at (916) 635-2500, the television or monitor can ride one of the three free bulky pickups when flagged at booking, and the Special Waste Collection Center takes e-waste within the monthly drop-off allowance.
When & how
Call Republic Services at (916) 635-2500 for the curbside e-waste appointment or a bulky pickup, or take the device to the Special Waste Collection Center on Disposal Lane, open Saturday through Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Get it ready
Wipe or factory reset anything that stores personal data before it leaves the house, flag televisions and monitors when the bulky pickup is booked, and keep batteries and hazardous material out of the load because the center handles those separately.

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

A bulky pile goes out on the appointment day, not before

The pile goes in front of the residence on the same side of the street, no more than 24 hours before the appointment, because the city warns that setting material out sooner can bring a citation for illegal dumping and that this includes material strangers add to the pile. The maximum is 7 by 6 by 4 feet, or five cubic yards, and a resident who expects more should say so when booking so the extra can be priced instead of left behind.

The drop-off center has its own terms

The Special Waste Collection Center is for Elk Grove residents only and is open Saturday through Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. A resident may bring one truck-size load a month of hard-to-recycle material at no additional charge, and the load has to arrive in a privately owned vehicle with no business markings, because business and contractor waste is refused. The recycling area and reuse room allow ten items a month for each household.

Book a free bulky waste pickup

A single-family home or a multiplex of four units or fewer with a couch, an appliance, a television within the size limits, or a pile of junk that will not fit the cart.

Cost & conditions
No charge. Three appointments a calendar year at no charge as part of the residential service, each covering up to five cubic yards; an on-call pickup beyond the three, or material above the pile limit, is charged on the city fee schedule.
Arrange it
Call Republic Services at (916) 635-2500 to book the appointment for your regular trash day, flag any television or computer monitor, and put the pile out no more than 24 hours ahead.

Commercial waste, dirt, rocks, bricks, tree stumps, treated lumber outside the size limits, liquids, toxic material, household garbage, steel pipes, batteries and heavy car parts are refused, and the city's drop-off center refuses furniture and mattresses, so those items belong with the pickup.

Use the free annual trip to the Elder Creek Transfer Station

An Elk Grove household that would rather drive a bulky load than wait for an appointment, as long as it holds to the same item list.

Cost & conditions
No charge. One load a calendar year at no charge as part of the residential service, up to five cubic yards, using the same acceptable and unacceptable list as a curbside bulky pickup; additional trips are charged.
Arrange it
Take the load to 8642 Elder Creek Rd in Sacramento during the station's hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.

Hazardous material is not accepted at the transfer station, and the load has to follow the same rules as a curbside bulky pile, including the exclusion of dirt, rocks, bricks, stumps and large car parts.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Elk Grove gives a household two ways to move material itself. The first is the free annual trip to the Elder Creek Transfer Station at 8642 Elder Creek Rd, where one load of up to five cubic yards is included in the residential service and the same acceptable and unacceptable list as a curbside bulky pile applies. The second is the Special Waste Collection Center at 9255 Disposal Lane, open Saturday through Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., which takes household hazardous waste free from residents and one truck-size load a month of hard-to-recycle material: scrap metal and predominantly metal items such as exercise equipment, appliances without Freon, e-waste, cardboard and small amounts of inert material and green waste. The center refuses furniture, mattresses, carpet, glass, treated wood, plastics and business waste, and a load has to arrive in a private vehicle with no business markings. Mattresses have no confirmed city route at all, which is why they are a call to Republic Services at (916) 635-2500 before anything is set out. A reuse room lets residents pick up usable products.

Elk Grove residents only, one truck-size load a month for the large recyclables drop-off, and material has to arrive in a privately owned vehicle with no business markings. Furniture, mattresses, carpet, glass and mirrors, treated wood, stumps wider than a foot, pallets, plastics, sod, ceramic tile, drywall, toilets, porcelain and anything containing Freon are refused, and devices should be wiped or reset before they are dropped off.

Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

TV removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Elk Grove.

How much does TV removal cost in Elk Grove?

A flat-screen TV under 42 inches is $79 as the first item and $19 as an additional item. Larger flat screens and tube TVs have their own prices. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Choose the type that matches your TV and review your total, including any applicable tax, before payment.

Can I get same-day TV pickup in Elk Grove?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates offered at checkout and have the TV outside according to your confirmation. We text you when your hauler is on the way and provide photos when the pickup is done.

Will Dropcurb remove my TV from the wall or carry it downstairs?

You arrange unmounting, disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb starts at an accessible outdoor location, where we load your TV and take it away. If you need help removing a mounted TV or moving a heavy tube TV outside, arrange that separately before your pickup day.

Do you pick up old tube or CRT televisions?

Yes. Choose Tube TV for an older television with curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Its price is $249 as the first item and $249 as an additional item. A rear-projection television is a different item; send a photo before booking rather than choosing the tube-TV option.

Does my old TV have to work?

Your TV does not need to turn on for removal. Choose its type and size and arrange to have it outside before pickup. A non-working TV and a TV with exposed broken glass are different situations; send a photo of unusual damage so we can confirm the plan before you book.

How do televisions and computers leave an Elk Grove home?

There are three published routes. A curbside e-waste pickup by appointment with Republic Services at (916) 635-2500 is part of the residential service, a television or computer monitor can ride one of the three free bulky pickups when it is flagged at booking, and the Special Waste Collection Center takes e-waste within the monthly drop-off allowance.Official guidance

Who collects trash in Elk Grove?

Republic Services hauls residential waste for the city under an exclusive franchise, and it handles the curbside carts, the bulky pickups, the e-waste and sharps appointments and the used oil collection at (916) 635-2500. The city runs the Special Waste Collection Center on Disposal Lane and answers questions through its recycling and waste division.Official guidance

What does the monthly waste rate include?

Weekly trash and organics collection, recycling every other week, up to three recycle and organics carts, curbside pickup of used motor oil, oil filters and batteries, e-waste and sharps pickups by appointment, three bulky item pickups a year of up to five cubic yards, one trip to the Elder Creek Transfer Station a year, holiday tree collection from December 26 through January, free household hazardous waste drop-offs at the Special Waste Collection Center and free compost twice a year.Official guidance
