Appliances are named in the large bulky item program, which collects up to two items such as appliances, mattresses and furniture in a set out, and the hauler asks for the doors to be removed or sealed.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. An appliance is collected as one of the two large bulky items at no additional charge on a scheduled clean-up day, provided it falls in the 60 to 200 pound per item range; anything heavier than 200 pounds is refused.
When & how
Set the appliance out on the address's clean-up day by 5:30 a.m., within 3 feet of the curb and clear of the street and the sidewalk.
Get it ready
Remove or seal the doors on a refrigerator, freezer or other appliance before it goes out, and empty the unit. Keep hazardous waste out of the pile, and take paint, chemicals and batteries through the household hazardous waste programs instead.
The bulky program runs on scheduled clean-up days, not on request
San Ramon does not book bulky pickups on demand. Every single-family address gets three neighborhood clean-up days a year, listed by address on the hauler's schedule, and each set out takes up to 3 cubic yards of material plus two large bulky items such as appliances, mattresses and furniture, with four car or light truck tires allowed if the rims are separated. Items go within 3 feet of the curb by 5:30 a.m. on the scheduled day and no more than 24 hours in advance, and two different vehicles collect what is put out. Volume beyond the limit and an extra clean-up outside the scheduled days are both charged separately.
Hazardous items never go in an ACI container or a clean-up pile. San Ramon residents can book a free door-to-door collection with Clean Harbors at 1-800-433-5060, which sends a containment kit and takes one type of material per bag, sealed and ready by 6 a.m. on the appointment day, with no container larger than five gallons. The other route is the Central Contra Costa Sanitary District facility at 4797 Imhoff Place in Martinez, free to San Ramon residents with no appointment and open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., where a visit is limited to 15 gallons or 125 pounds in containers no larger than five gallons. Leftover paint can also go back to many retailers through PaintCare.

Can I book if the delivery company did not take my old appliance?+
Yes. Dropcurb pickup is separate from buying or installing a replacement, so you can book removal on its own. Select the old appliance, choose a pickup day and arrange for it to be disconnected and accessible outside. If your new delivery is still ahead, confirm the retailer’s haul-away arrangements before booking a separate pickup.
