Finish clearing the space
The last few things still deserve a pickup.
You have decided what is going. Now give those bags and boxes a pickup day, with a price you can see before anyone arrives.
The move is nearly done.
Book the unwanted bags and boxes left after packing. Choose an available pickup day before you hand back the keys, and arrange to have them outside.
The clear-out can be finished.
You do not need a whole house of junk. Select the bags, boxes and larger items you actually have. Your combined price is shown online.
You want to know it is handled.
When the next collection does not fit your plans, choose a Dropcurb pickup day. Updates keep you informed, and completion photos show when the booked items are gone.
A few simple choices turn a mixed pile into a clear booking. No need to estimate how much of a truck it might fill.
Filled bags and boxes
Count each trash bag or filled household box. Books and media go by the box. Clothes, bedding and shoes go by the filled bag. Toys packed together have a Box of toys choice. Ask us about unusually heavy or oversized bags and boxes first.
Empty cardboard and containers
Empty cardboard is a different choice: choose single empty boxes or tied bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Compacted bales have their own weight-based choices and require loading-dock access. A Storage bin choice covers the empty bin itself; ask us to confirm the contents if they are going too.
Furniture and other larger items
Add the actual larger item alongside your bags and boxes, such as a sofa, chair or mattress. It has its own price and preparation. Keep construction materials and items needing special handling out of ordinary household bags.

Boulder has no citywide bulky item pickup. An oversized household item goes to the hard-to-recycle site, to a reuse donation, or onto a large item collection arranged with the hauler on the account for a fee the hauler sets.
City cost & eligibility
There is no municipal bulky program and no published municipal rate. The Eco-Cycle hard-to-recycle site publishes per item charges for the materials it takes, and a hauler's own large item collection is priced by that hauler, so ask the hauler and the facility before anything is set out.
When & how
Ask the hauler how it handles a large item and when it would collect, or plan a trip to the hard-to-recycle site or the reuse center during their open hours.
Get it ready
Keep the item on the property until a collection is arranged, and check the material rules first: the hard-to-recycle site refuses pressurized vessels such as propane and helium tanks, requires gas powered equipment to be drained of oil and gas, and refuses bedding that is moldy or has bed bugs. Usable furniture and appliances are better donated for reuse than sent for recycling.
The hard-to-recycle site accepts bicycle tires and tubes only and states plainly that it cannot recycle automotive tires, and no city or county page retrieved for this guide publishes a residential automotive tire drop off.
City cost & eligibility
No published residential rate covers a car or truck tire in Boulder, and the hard-to-recycle site refuses automotive tires, so ask the hauler on the account or the shop that sold you the tires what it charges before anything is dropped off. Bicycle tires and tubes are charged at the hard-to-recycle site inside its published fee schedule.
When & how
Ask the tire retailer or the hauler first. The hard-to-recycle site takes bicycle tires and tubes during its weekday and Saturday hours and is closed Sunday.
Get it ready
Do not take an automotive tire to the hard-to-recycle site, because automotive tires are on its refusal list. A tire store that mounts new tires is the usual take back point and the shortest trip.
A mattress or box spring goes to the hard-to-recycle site for a published per unit charge, and a mattress can also be dropped at a county transfer station or with a mattress collection service.
City cost & eligibility
From $30 for one mattress or box spring at the hard-to-recycle site. A foam mattress topper is charged 10.00, a box spring with two or more pieces is charged proportionally as multiple units, and bedding that is moldy or has bed bugs is refused. The Nederland Transfer Station takes mattresses and box springs at no charge for county residents, the county directory lists Western Disposal as accepting mattresses and box springs at its transfer station without publishing a fee, and a mattress pickup service is listed for a charge.
When & how
Take the set to 6400 Arapahoe Rd. Monday through Saturday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., or to a county transfer station during its open hours.
Get it ready
Keep the mattress dry and free of mold and pests, because the hard-to-recycle site refuses bedding with either. Ask the retailer delivering a new mattress whether it takes the old one away, which is the cheapest first call.
Usable furniture is a donation item at Resource Central next to the hard-to-recycle site, and nothing collects furniture at the curb in Boulder without an arrangement with the hauler on the account.
City cost & eligibility
Resource Central accepts furniture donations for resale and can also haul material, with the pickup quoted by the organization, and a hauler's own large item collection is priced by that hauler. There is no municipal rate, so ask both before booking.
When & how
Drop furniture at 6400 Arapahoe Rd. Monday through Saturday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., or ask Resource Central whether it will collect from the property.
Get it ready
Donate only items in good condition, because the reuse facility takes new and used household materials that are fit for resale. A worn out piece that no reuse center will take is the case to price with the hauler as a large item.
A metal appliance that is at least half metal and free of refrigerant goes to the hard-to-recycle site covered by its facility fee, while a refrigerator, freezer or air conditioner carries a published per unit charge.
City cost & eligibility
From $3 for the facility fee charged for each vehicle entering the hard-to-recycle site. A refrigerant appliance such as a refrigerator, freezer, air conditioner or dehumidifier is charged 45.00 each on top of the facility fee, while scrap metal items that are at least 50 percent metal and contain no refrigerant are covered by the facility fee alone. The county directory also lists Western Disposal as accepting large appliances and Resource Central as taking large appliances in good condition, and neither publishes a price, so ask before hauling.
When & how
Take the appliance to 6400 Arapahoe Rd. Monday through Saturday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., or ask Resource Central about a reuse donation of a working unit.
Get it ready
Remove the glass plate from a microwave before recycling it, because the hard-to-recycle site cannot process the glass. Water heaters, stoves, ovens, washing machines, dryers and dishwashers count as scrap metal when they are at least half metal and free of refrigerant, and pressurized vessels such as propane or helium tanks are refused even when empty.
Electronics go to the hard-to-recycle site, where computers and phones carry no item fee and screens and other devices are charged by weight.
City cost & eligibility
From $3 for the facility fee charged for each vehicle entering the hard-to-recycle site. Computers, laptops, tablets and mobile phones are covered by the facility fee alone. CRT televisions and monitors are charged 0.69 per pound, flat screen televisions and monitors 0.59 per pound, small plastic appliances and miscellaneous electronics such as printers, keyboards, stereos and fax machines 0.59 per pound, media 3.00 per pound, printer cartridges 1.50 per pound, and certified data destruction 12.00 per item. Broken CRT glass is charged 1.00 per pound because it is handled as hazardous material. The county directory also lists Western Disposal as accepting electronics without a published price.
When & how
Take the device to 6400 Arapahoe Rd. Monday through Saturday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. No appointment is needed, and electronics are paid for at the second register in the electronics zone.
Get it ready
Wipe personal data or remove the drive before recycling a computer or phone, and pay for certified data destruction at the site if you need a certificate of destruction. Items with food or liquid residue, biohazards, or loose glass components such as a coffee pot or blender carafe cannot be recycled, and data bearing devices are handled separately from other electronics.
Boulder regulates construction waste directly: a full structure deconstruction permit has to reuse or recycle most of the material, and new construction has to divert all clean lumber, metal and cardboard.
City cost & eligibility
From $219 for the non refundable zero waste review fee for a full structure deconstruction permit. A deconstruction permit also carries a refundable deposit of 1.00 per square foot of the structure with a 1,500.00 minimum, refunded according to how much was actually reused or recycled. Reusable building material can be donated at no charge, while heavy material dropped at the hard-to-recycle site is charged by weight or per fixture, with ceramics and concrete at 0.10 per pound and a toilet, sink or urinal at 5.00 without fixtures or 25.00 with them. The county yard and wood waste drop off center gives residents a 40 percent discount on normal yard and wood waste pricing.
When & how
Apply for the permit as usual, then activate the Green Halo project created with it, submit the waste diversion plan for approval, and upload weight tickets or photos as the work proceeds. File the final waste report within 60 days of finishing the work and then request the deposit refund inspection.
Get it ready
Full structure deconstruction has to reuse or recycle at least 75 percent of the waste across at least three different material types such as wood, metal and concrete, while new construction has to reuse or recycle 100 percent of clean lumber, metal and cardboard. In unincorporated Boulder County, demolition is prohibited and buildings must be deconstructed, and job site waste including wood, scrap metal and concrete has to be recycled. Keep wood waste separate from yard waste at the drop off center, because separation is what unlocks the resident discount and the contractor rate.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.
A household with furniture, a working appliance, cabinets, doors, fixtures, flooring, windows, tile, roofing tile or salvageable building material in good condition.
Cost & conditions
No charge. There is no charge to donate material that is in good condition for resale. The reuse center can also collect material from a property, and the county directory notes that a pickup may be free or may carry a charge, so ask when the pickup is arranged.
Arrange it
Drop the items at 6400 Arapahoe Rd. Monday through Saturday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. and ask about a property pickup at 303-419-5418.
The reuse center takes new and used building and household materials that are in good condition, so a worn out piece will not be accepted and has to be priced with a hauler as a large item instead. Large appliances are accepted for reuse only when they still work.
Licensed private haulers, with Eco-Cycle and Boulder County running the hard-to-recycle and hazardous waste drop-off sites
Ask the hauler on the account for a large item collection
A household with an oversized item that no drop off route will take, such as a worn out couch, an exercise machine or another bulky piece.
Cost & conditions
The city states that it does not determine or control hauler rates, so the large item charge comes from the hauler on the account. Ask for the price and the item rules before booking a collection.
Arrange it
Call the hauler on the account and ask how it handles a large item, then set the piece out only for the date the hauler gives you.
Not every hauler offers the same large item service, and the city does not run a municipal pickup of its own. Anything usable should go to the reuse center first, and a mattress, appliance or electronic device has a cheaper documented drop off route at the hard-to-recycle site.

Before you book
A few things worth knowing.
Bulk junk removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Boulder.
How much does bulk junk removal cost in Boulder?+
A trash bag is $59 as the first item and $10 additional. A filled household box is $59 as the first item. Add your actual items and quantities to see the combined price before booking. Loading, transportation and disposal are included; any applicable sales tax is shown before payment.
Can you pick up bags of junk today?+
Book by 2pm in the pickup address’s local time for same-day pickup. Available dates appear at checkout. Have the booked bags and boxes outside and accessible according to your confirmation. You receive pickup updates and completion photos; the booking is for a day rather than an exact arrival time.
Do I count every object inside a bag or box?+
No. Count the filled bags or boxes using the matching choice. Books and media go in Filled household box; clothes, bedding and shoes go in Bag of clothes & bedding; packed toys have a Box of toys choice. Empty cardboard is separate, with individual empty boxes and bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Heavy, oversized or unusual contents need a photo review before booking.
Can you pick up a small loose pile of household junk?+
Yes. Estimate how many trash bags the small household pile would fill, and bag or box as much as possible. Select furniture and other larger items separately. There is no extra charge just because the pile is loose. Send a photo first if the count or contents are unclear. A household Dumpster Bag choice does not accept construction debris.
Can I book bags, boxes and furniture together?+
Yes. Select the bags and boxes, then add each larger item using its own catalog choice. The booking shows one combined price for the selected items. Move everything to an accessible outdoor spot before pickup; indoor carrying and sorting are not included. Keep anything you want to retain apart from the booked items and identify what goes in your photos and notes.
Does Boulder have a curbside bulky item pickup?+
The city does not run one and does not provide municipal hauling, so a large item is handled either by the hauler on the account, which may offer its own large item collection for a fee, or by a trip to the hard-to-recycle site or a reuse donation instead.Official guidance
Where can I take an old car tire in Boulder?+
There is no published municipal drop off. The hard-to-recycle site states that it cannot recycle automotive tires and takes bicycle tires and tubes only, so ask the hauler on the account or the tire shop that sold you the new tires about a take back or a drop off charge.Official guidance
What does it cost to recycle a mattress in Boulder?+
The hard-to-recycle site charges a published fee for one mattress or box spring and a smaller fee for a foam mattress topper, with a box spring that comes in two or more pieces charged proportionally as multiple units. Can I donate a couch in Boulder instead of throwing it away?+

The county construction directory lists that same facility for furniture and large appliances.Official guidance
Is there a charge for a refrigerator or freezer in Boulder?+
Yes. The hard-to-recycle site charges a published fee per refrigerant appliance, which covers refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and dehumidifiers, and that is charged on top of the facility fee for the visit. An appliance that is at least 50 percent metal with no refrigerant is covered by the facility fee alone.Official guidance
What does it cost to recycle a television in Boulder?+

Computers, laptops, tablets and mobile phones carry no item fee.Official guidance
Do I need an appointment to drop off electronics?+

How much construction waste has to be diverted in Boulder?+
A full structure deconstruction permit requires reuse or recycling of at least 75 percent of the waste across at least three different material types, and new construction requires reuse or recycling of 100 percent of clean lumber, metal and cardboard. The work is documented in Green Halo, and the deconstruction deposit refund depends on how close the project comes to those minimums.Official guidance
Where does heavy construction material go in Boulder?+
Concrete, ceramics and plumbing fixtures such as toilets and sinks go to the hard-to-recycle site, which charges by weight for concrete and ceramics and per fixture for a toilet, sink or urinal, and reusable building material goes to the reuse center next door instead. Yard waste and untreated wood go to the county drop off center at Western Disposal on 63rd Street, where residents get a discount and wood has to stay separated from yard waste.Official guidance
Does the City of Boulder pick up trash?+
No. The city does not provide municipal waste hauling and does not set or control hauler rates, so a household or property owner subscribes to a licensed private hauler for trash, recycling and compost.
