The local disposal guide

Will the city
take it?

Longmont collects its own trash, recycling and composting, so the city rather than a franchise hauler runs the routes for large items. A household can book a large item pickup on the regular collection day for the published one, two or three item fee, the city sponsors two free landfill days a year for one level pickup truck load of large items and debris, and a four cubic yard residential dumpster rents by the week. Appliances are free at the Longmont Recycling Center, the Hard to Recycle event each October takes the first screen, the first 40 pounds and the first mattress at no charge, and household chemicals go to Boulder County's hazardous waste facility, which is free to Longmont residents.

Household appliances

Accepted with preparation

Household appliances are refused on the large item route but the city says they may be disposed of free of charge at the Longmont Recycling Center.

Reserve a slot for the Hard to Recycle event through Green Girl Recycling and take the device to 1801 Boston Ave. during the October 5 to 17, 2026 window.
Get it ready

Construction and demolition material

Not on the regular city route

Construction and remodeling debris is refused on the trash cart, the large item pickup, the rent-a-dumpster and the free landfill days.

City cost & eligibility
The city publishes no construction rate because none of its routes take the material. A project load needs a private hauler or container company, or a direct arrangement with the receiving landfill, so confirm the container size, the material rules and the price before work starts.
When & how
Arrange a private hauler or container company before the project produces debris, because the city routes exclude construction material and the residential dumpster refuses concrete, bricks, shingles, drywall, plaster, tile and lumber over three feet.
Get it ready
Keep construction debris out of the trash cart, the large item pile and the dumpster, keep paint, liquids and hazardous waste out of any container, and confirm the receiving site's accepted material before the load leaves.

Exercise equipment

Special rules apply

Exercise equipment is not named on any city list, so the machine has to be confirmed with Waste Services before it is booked as a large item.

City cost & eligibility
No city page names an exercise machine or publishes a price for one, so confirm with Waste Services at 303-651-8416 that the machine is accepted as one of the three large items, and expect the published large item fee if it is.
When & how
Call Waste Services before booking, and use the large item pickup only once the machine is confirmed.
Get it ready
Fold or tie down the deck and handles, remove any console or battery pack so it can be handled separately, and keep the machine inside the three item limit if it is accepted.
