No charge. An appliance without refrigerant placed on one of the two free special pickups a calendar year, counted inside the ten item limit. Units containing Freon are refused on this route.

Add the appliance to a special pickup requested at least 48 hours before the scheduled trash day, and have it in the street by 7 a.m. on the pickup day.

Empty the unit and secure the doors before it goes out, and keep the appliance out of the trash cart and off the sidewalk, because the special pickup program collects from the street and only the items listed on the ticket. A unit that still holds refrigerant has to take a different route.

When & how
Call the sanitation division before the pickup day rather than adding the unit to a special pickup request, because the request would be refused for a refrigerant appliance.
Get it ready
Empty the unit, secure or remove the doors, and keep the refrigerant sealed until a qualified handler takes the unit, since venting refrigerant is what makes the appliance a separate category in the first place.

Can I book if the delivery company did not take my old appliance?+
Yes. Dropcurb pickup is separate from buying or installing a replacement, so you can book removal on its own. Select the old appliance, choose a pickup day and arrange for it to be disconnected and accessible outside. If your new delivery is still ahead, confirm the retailer’s haul-away arrangements before booking a separate pickup.
Which appliances can the City pick up?+

Where do household batteries go?+
Alkaline batteries, which are the non-rechargeable kind, go in the regular trash. Rechargeable batteries go to the in-store recycling center at the Lowe's on 261 W. 104th Ave. Automotive batteries are different again: the City collects up to two a week on the scheduled trash day if they are placed next to the trash cart in the street rather than inside it.Official guidance
Can I still put used motor oil out at the curb?+
No. The City used to collect up to five gallons of used motor oil or antifreeze a week in clear one-gallon containers marked with the address and with taped lids, but it states that from July 1, 2026 it no longer accepts either at the curb. Most auto parts retailers and some oil change stations take used oil, and Veolia accepts oil and antifreeze for a fee.Official guidance
Can anyone take the free mulch?+
Yes. Mulch is available to residents, the general public and businesses during yard waste drop-off hours, with no identification required and no charge, and the City refills a large pile at the same site. Visitors bring their own shovels because the City does not provide tools, and the drop-off itself is still limited to Northglenn single-family residences.Official guidance
