The local disposal guide
Novi contracts trash, recycling, yard waste and bulk item collection to Priority Waste as the sole provider and pays for it through a refuse fee on the summer and winter tax bills. Couches, mattresses and box springs, refrigerators, televisions and other bulky household items go out on the regular collection day at no separate per-item cost, with the doors removed from a refrigerator and a courtesy call to the hauler. Hazardous material, whole tires, pianos and a few other named items are refused at the curb and belong at a RRRASOC household hazardous waste event.

Refrigerators, freezers, water heaters, toilets and similar large household appliances are collected as bulk items on the same day as the regular refuse collection.
Novi lists televisions, computers, cameras, radios and similar electronics as regular trash, so they can go out with the household refuse or to a household hazardous waste event.
Small amounts of concrete, brick, rock, dirt, ceramic tile and wood are accepted as regular refuse when each container stays inside the published weight limit, while the recycling cart never takes construction or roofing debris.
Any household item too large for the cart is handled individually as a bulk item, and extra refuse goes out in another container no larger than 35 gallons.
Exercise machines are not named in the City's item list, so whether a treadmill, bike or weight machine rides the bulk collection depends on its size and weight.
The handoff matters
Trash, recycling and bulky items must be at the curb by 7 a.m. on the collection day, and carts should be back in by that evening. When an observed holiday falls on or before your collection day, service is one day behind for the rest of that week.
City trash collection rules, carts and bulk item pickupCity ordinance keeps bins off the curb until 24 hours before the collection day, and receptacles have to be removed within 12 hours after collection. Keep containers where they do not create a nuisance for neighbors.
City trash service questions, set-out timing, billing and ratesBulk items ride the regular collection day instead of a booked appointment. The City asks for a courtesy call to Priority Waste at 586-228-1200 so the driver can be prepared, and missed collections are reported to Priority Waste as well.
