The local disposal guide
O'Fallon runs its own trash, recycling, yard waste and bulk services through the Environmental Services Department instead of contracting the work out, and the monthly trash rate already includes recycling. Bulk waste moves two ways: free drop-off days at the City transfer station six times a year for current trash customers, and a curbside bulky pickup billed per hopper space with each item limited to 60 pounds and the hopper size. Appliances are not accepted in the drop-off load and are collected curbside as a white goods pickup instead, while televisions, appliances and anything else with a cord can also be recycled at the City's bi-monthly events at CarShield Field or at the county Recycle Works sites.

The handoff matters
The City trucks are automated, so carts go out by 6:30 a.m. on the collection day with the handle facing the home, and they stay four feet away from parked cars, mailboxes, trees and other obstacles. Only the cart is emptied, so boxes belong inside it with the lid closed and anything else needs a scheduled bulky pickup.

Bulk waste drop-off days, curbside bulk pickup limits and fees, and appliance pickupCollection runs as normal on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day and Christmas Eve in 2026. Latex paint has to be mixed with an absorbent such as kitty litter and completely dried before it goes out, and sharps belong in a rigid container such as an empty detergent bottle rather than a coffee can, milk jug or glass. Hazardous liquids go to a county household hazardous waste collection instead.

Yard waste is a separate optional weekly service with its own container, bag and bundle limits, and the City limits each unit to 60 pounds.
