The local disposal guide
Vienna collects its own waste with five separate crews on the same day each week: trash, single stream recycling, yard waste, brush and one bulk pile per residence. Households buy their own containers, keep them to 55 gallons and 40 pounds, and set everything at the curb by 6 a.m. on the collection day. The town takes furniture, carpet, toilets, sinks, tubs and empty gas mowers in the weekly bulk pile, but it refuses appliances, electronics and contractor generated waste outright. Those refused loads go to Fairfax County: the I-66 Transfer Station on West Ox Road takes trash, recycling and food scraps seven days a week, prices appliances, mattresses, tires and small construction loads on a published unit schedule, takes televisions, computers and peripherals free of charge, and runs the free household hazardous waste program. The town adds four Quarterly Recycling Days a year for automotive waste, scrap metal and most electronics, plus a year round battery drop off at the town hall and community center.
