The local disposal guide

Will the city
take it?

Rogers does not run its own collection crew. GFL Environmental is the contracted provider of residential garbage, curbside recycling and bulky pickup inside the city, service is billed with the Rogers Water Utility statement, and city ordinance makes trash service mandatory for residential addresses. The bulky program is the one that matters for a couch, a mattress or an appliance: two items a month are included, the pickup is scheduled in advance and only the published acceptable list is taken. Televisions, computer components, microwaves, refrigerators, construction debris and tires are on the refused list, and the Benton County Solid Waste District takes those at its drop-off behind the recycling center.

Weekly garbage cart

Accepted with preparation

Garbage is collected once a week in a 96 or 64 gallon cart on the assigned service day, and the cart belongs to the hauler rather than the household.

City cost & eligibility
$21.33 for the published monthly regular waste service rate for one cart collected once a week, billed with the Rogers Water Utility statement. Residential addresses inside the Rogers city limits, where city ordinance makes trash service mandatory. A low volume cart option is published at a lower monthly rate, and additional carts carry separate published rates.
When & how
Materials go to the curb no later than 7:00 a.m. on the service day. Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year's Day push pickup one day later.
Get it ready
Keep the lid fully closed, because an overflowing cart is not collected. The cart has to sit less than three feet from the street curb, at least three feet from the recycling cart, at least six feet from a mailbox and at least ten feet from a fire hydrant, with the lid facing the road and the wheels toward the house. Dirt, construction material, bathroom fixtures, yard waste, bulky waste, automotive fluids, tires, paint, fluorescent bulbs, batteries and pesticides are all refused in the cart, and a cart over 199 pounds is left behind.

Bulky waste and furniture

Accepted with preparation

Furniture and the rest of the approved bulky list are collected once a month, with two items a month included and the pickup scheduled in advance with the hauler.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Rogers residential hauling customers, with two bulky items a month included in the monthly service at no additional charge. Additional items are a separate paid pickup.
When & how
Bulky waste is scheduled with the hauler at 479-878-1384 at least 48 hours before the bulk day. The bulk day follows the normal service day: first Monday, first Tuesday, second Wednesday, third Thursday or fourth Friday of the month, so a Friday address gets the fourth Friday.
Get it ready
Keep bagged trash out of the bulky pile, because anything in a bag is treated as household trash and is not collected. Approved bulky items are furniture, common household appliances without freon, artificial Christmas trees, grills, large toys and toy parts, mattresses wrapped in plastic, tools, carpet and padding cut into 4 by 4 sections, and fire pits.

Mattresses and box springs

Accepted with preparation

A mattress is on the approved bulky list, is collected once a month and counts as one of the two included items, and it has to be wrapped in plastic before it goes out.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. One of the two bulky items included each month in the residential service, with any additional item arranged as a separate paid pickup.
When & how
Schedule the mattress with the hauler at 479-878-1384 at least 48 hours before the bulk day for your service day, and set it out wrapped.
Get it ready
Wrap the mattress in plastic before it goes to the curb. Keep it out of the garbage cart, and keep it clear of bagged trash so the pile is not read as household trash.

Appliances without refrigerant

Accepted with preparation

Common household appliances without freon are on the approved bulky list, and non-refrigerated large appliances are also the one category the county takes free without a limit.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Non-freon household appliances such as a washer, dryer, range or dishwasher, collected as one of the two bulky items included each month. Cooling appliances are excluded from this route.
When & how
Schedule the appliance with the hauler at 479-878-1384 at least 48 hours before the bulk day for your service day.
Get it ready
Keep the appliance out of the garbage cart, take it to the curb whole rather than broken apart, and keep freon models on the cooling appliance route instead.

Refrigerators, freezers and cooling appliances

Special rules apply

Refrigerators are refused on the bulky day and the curbside cart, so a cooling appliance goes to the county special waste drop-off, which handles refrigerated appliances on a per item charge with no free items.

City cost & eligibility
$10 for the published per item charge for a household refrigerated appliance at the Benton County special waste drop-off, which offers no free items for this category. Benton County households delivering their own household appliance with government issued photo identification. Refrigerators, freezers, dehumidifiers, home ice makers, wine coolers and window air conditioners are covered, and all food must be removed before delivery.
When & how
The Rogers satellite at 2307 N Arkansas St takes deliveries Tuesday through Friday and the second and fourth Saturdays, 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., closed 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Get it ready
Empty all food and loose contents before the trip, because the district will not accept a refrigerated appliance that still holds food. Take it whole, keep it out of the garbage cart, and leave the refrigerant sealed since the district handles the appliance as a refrigerated unit.

Televisions and electronics

Special rules apply

Televisions, computer components and microwaves are refused on the bulky day and in the carts, so electronics go to the county special waste drop-off, which charges for each item and offers no free electronics.

City cost & eligibility
$7 for the published per item charge for household electronics and microwaves at the Benton County special waste drop-off, which offers no free items for this category. Benton County households delivering their own household electronics with government issued photo identification. Each item must contain a circuit board and a power cord, and mice, keyboards, speakers and cables are accepted free.
When & how
The Rogers satellite at 2307 N Arkansas St takes deliveries Tuesday through Friday and the second and fourth Saturdays, 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., closed 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Get it ready
Wipe personal data off a computer or drive before the trip, bring the item with its power cord, and keep the television or monitor out of the garbage and recycling carts while you arrange the drop-off.

Construction and demolition debris

Not on the regular city route

Construction and demolition debris is not bulky waste and is refused in the garbage cart, so it has to go to a transfer station or landfill instead of the curb.

City cost & eligibility
The City and its contracted hauler both state that construction and demolition debris is not collected, and the hauler's bulky terms name toilets, boards, plywood and cabinets as items that are not bulky waste. The county states that building materials, including anything manufactured to be installed in a building, must be disposed of at a transfer station or landfill, so the material moves through a paid self haul route rather than a collection.
When & how
Nothing from a project goes out with the weekly cart or the monthly bulky pickup, so arrange the load with a transfer station or landfill before the work starts.
Get it ready
Keep boards, plywood, drywall, shingles, tile, fixtures, cabinets, toilets and demolition material out of the garbage cart and off the bulky pile, because both routes refuse them.

Exercise equipment

Special rules apply

Exercise equipment appears on neither the acceptable nor the unacceptable bulky list published for Rogers, so a treadmill or elliptical has to be confirmed with the hauler before it goes out.

City cost & eligibility
The published bulky tables name no exercise equipment, so acceptance is not settled either way. Call the hauler at 479-878-1384 with the machine type and weight and confirm whether it can be scheduled as one of the two monthly bulky items.
When & how
Confirm the machine first, then schedule the pickup at least 48 hours before the bulk day for your service day if the hauler approves it.
Get it ready
Take the machine down as far as it will come apart, keep loose weights and parts with it, and take off anything with a screen or a battery so it can be routed separately if the hauler asks for that.
