Household batteries ride along with the glass bin. Since January 1, 2023 a Hillsboro household that does not share service has recycled common household batteries in the red glass bin at no extra cost, and the batteries that the bin refuses have two named businesses in town.

Tape both ends of button cell, lithium, six-volt, nine-volt, rechargeable and lithium cell batteries, and keep battery back-up units, car batteries and lead-acid batteries out of the bin because they are not recycled curbside. Cover the load or pay the uncovered load rate, and keep asbestos, roofing, liquids and burned material out of it entirely.
Exercise equipment is not on the city's bulky item list, and the rate sheet sends anything unlisted back to the hauler for a price, so a treadmill or a weight machine is confirmed before it is scheduled.

Collection is interrupted when schools close for weather, and an interrupted collection is made the following day. If the interruption lasts more than a day the household moves to its next scheduled collection day, and up to twice the usual volume may then be set out at no charge.
