Bloomington Public Works runs the Solid Waste Program: garbage is collected curbside every week and recycling every other week, both except for Christmas Day, and leaves, trimmings, brush and bulk are each collected every other week on the alternating weeks. The monthly cart fee includes the first loader bucket of bulk at about 2.5 cubic yards, the fall leaf pickup and use of the Citizen Convenience Center at 402 S. East Street, while second and subsequent bulk buckets in the same week are charged per bucket. Appliances go to the convenience center at no additional charge or are collected curbside by an outside company that charges for refrigerant removal, concrete, rock, shingles and brick have to be arranged through Public Works for a fee, electronics go to the Town of Normal's McLean County drop-off, and household hazardous waste is not accepted curbside or at the drop-off and runs through Ecology Action Center events.

Commercial waste is not acceptable for curbside pickup, and leaves, garden trimmings, brush, hot ashes, solvents, paint, dead animals, chemicals, oils, liquids, medical waste and household hazardous waste cannot go in a cart. Arrange it
Call Public Works at 309-434-2220 for cart repairs, additional carts or a size change, put carts out no earlier than 2 p.m. the day before and no later than 6 a.m. on the pickup day, and buy additional garbage bag stickers at The Hub or the public library.
