The local disposal guide
The Colony collects trash and recycling once a week and green waste every Monday, and bulky waste leaves on a designated Monday twice a month, with the Mondays set by whether the household trash day falls early or late in the week. Furniture, appliances, water heaters, grills, half cut fence panels, carpet and lawn mowers are all on the acceptable bulk list, the load is capped at four cubic yards, and an appliance holding Freon only goes out with a technician's paperwork attached to it. Televisions, tires, hazardous liquids, large metal objects and big construction debris are refused in the pile, and they go instead to the city hazardous waste drop-off on Colony Boulevard or into a roll-off container arranged through the contractor. Dropcurb hauls residential items from addresses across The Colony.

Bulk waste is collected twice a month on a designated Monday, and which Mondays applies depends on the normal trash day: a Tuesday or Wednesday household gets the first and third Mondays, and a Thursday or Friday household gets the second and fourth. The load is limited to four cubic yards.

Appliances, water heaters and lawn mowers are all named on the acceptable bulk list in The Colony's service guide. Two preparation rules decide whether the piece is collected: water containing appliances have to be drained, and mowers have to have the oil and gas removed.
An appliance containing Freon is collected only when the refrigerant has been removed by a certified technician and the proper paperwork is attached to the item. Without that paperwork the unit does not meet the published condition.
Electronics are refused in the bulk pile but accepted at the city Household Hazardous Waste drop-off. The city states that televisions are no longer allowed in landfills and that The Colony takes them at that drop-off.
Large amounts of construction debris are refused in The Colony's bulk pile, which names tile, flooring, roofing, long dimensional lumber, concrete, rocks and gravel. The city sends that work to a roll-off container instead.
Exercise equipment is not named on The Colony's acceptable bulk list, which covers furniture, appliances, water heaters, grills, half cut fence panels, carpet and lawn mowers. It is also not on the refused list, so it is an unlisted piece.
Household hazardous waste liquids of any kind and tires are refused in the bulk pile, and instead go to the city Household Hazardous Waste drop-off on Colony Boulevard. Oil, antifreeze, car batteries and tires have a second city drop-off at the city maintenance drop-off.
The handoff matters
